TRENDS AND ISSUES IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
Poverty is an issue of concern in elementary education. Children living in poverty often encounter various challenges in school. Strategies that are appropriate for teaching children living in poverty should be enforced to ensure children get full support. As such, specific training ought to be administered by teaching both the school staff and the teachers. The United States developed programs in which parents participate in school events, thus providing support to students’ families in need.
The United States has moved into the information era. Computers are used in most elementary schools. Thus, experts are employed in training students to use the technology. However, some issues arose with the use of computers in schools where students can access the internet. National standards have been developed to monitor the use of technology in schools and funding to facilitate the extensive spread of technology in schools (Spring, 2017)
Education for all Handicapped Children Act was established for effective public education that ensures the needs of all physically disadvantaged students. The bill consists of some of the provisions of mainstreaming children who are physically disadvantaged in public school structure. However, elementary schools are faced with some challenges in making their programs incorporated in the public school system, which are friendly with students with various types of disabilities, such as mental disabilities.
Student’s poor performance has been discovered as a result of an education system that has failed to provide appropriate schooling. Several states have put up measures to ensure all children access quality education. All students in grades three to eight are assessed yearly in reading and mathematics. A system of accountability was established to recognize schools that performed poorly. Moreover, the government could receive support from the government for teaching children with low performance (Spring, 2017)
