There are various factors that influence the use of mobile devices among individuals. It offers great flexibility, accessibility, and freedom to the users. Some of the prime reasons for the increased popularity of mobile devices are discussed below.

• Improved network coverage

With the faster internet speed (4th Generation and 5th generation) coming in and continuously improving network coverage area, the Internet service providers (ISP) have made it feasible and an option that is feasible and can be used in remote areas as well. Now the telecom companies are erecting more and more towers by each passing day to give their subscribers a more comprehensive coverage.

• Physically smaller

The mobile device, like cell phones, tablets, pods, and laptops, is shrinking in size like anything. We can still remember the bulky cordless telephones and the mobile phones, which were available ten to fifteen years back, it was the same with the laptop and other mobile devices, and they were heavy and unmanageable. However, the mobile device which we have in the market is much smaller, easy to carry, and not to mention an improved battery life, which makes them popular with everybody, be it a student, professional, or even the travelers.

• Improved processing power

As they rightly say, the processor is the heart of any mobile device (Duchamp, Feiner & Maguire, 1991). Gone are the days when the processors were less capable, and slower, the processors which are used in mobile devices nowadays are much more intelligent, faster and give a decent performance even in case of extensive use. .

• Better price points

This is again a significant factor contributing to the rapid growth in the use of mobile devices. With the new electronic companies coming into cellular manufacturing from countries like India and China, the price war has gone high. Every company wants to capture more and more market share; therefore, they are opting for a very competitive pricing policy, which in turn gives a buyer many more options to choose from that too for a decent cost. The price range for a suitable mobile phone could start from as low as USD 100 with a lot of advanced features. If we talk about laptops, it goes somewhat around USD 300 to start. This aggressive pricing strategy has provided a user to go for even more than a single device, which is again increasing the use of mobile devices.

• Next-generation operating systems (OSs)

Advanced Operating system like Apple’s IOS, Google’s Android and Windows from Microsoft has made using mobile devices a pleasure and fun (Duchamp, 1992). With these more accommodating OSs, it has become a more comprehensive platform for not only work but entertainment as well. OSs like ios and Android are loaded with useful applications, games, and much more, which makes these devices a complete solution for your work and entertainment-related needs.

• Mobile workforce

With the fast-paced life and flexible work timings in MNCs, the mobile workforce has become a well-known phenomenon nowadays. Many MNCs are flexible to offer work from home options to their employees, and the business people are always connected with their clients and vendors through their mobile devices. Mobile devices have become a part of everybody’s daily life in such a way that it is hard to imagine life without these gadgets (Fernando, Loke & Rahayu, 2013).

With the passing days, the popularity is expected to rise even more as more individuals turn to their mobile devices to seek an immediate solution to their various issues.
