Democracy in society
Democracy in society gives the people the right and freedom to manifest religion and beliefs and the ability to change religion at any particular time. These freedom and liberty are limited to the laws that govern society. Providing the right to practice religion and beliefs is essential since people have different ideologies which they believe in and can change them at any time. The essence of providing this freedom is to promote public safety, moral values, health, and protection of public order. In the same way, democratic society provides the right and privilege of expression, which involves sending and receiving information without interference under certain conditions and limitations by the law. Freedom of speech is practiced in the best interest of the public to protect the territorial integrity and public safety, provision of security, and protection of the reputation of others.
Technology has set people free from national jurisdiction and control. The development of cyberspace through software coding, engineering design, and terms of service has enabled the users of the internet to have control over government jurisdiction on what they can or cannot do. Activists argue that if you want to liberate society, then give them the internet. Technology is, therefore, in a balance between the citizens and the government. In a democratic society, some freedom has to be limited to protect the citizens. For instance, technology enables information transfer which can be violent and affect the peace of the society. There are still no answers in a democratic society on how to balance the need for security and protection of liberty and, on the other hand, grant freedom. The government has a legitimate role in serving the citizens, and the internet also improves the life of the citizens.
