violation of privacy as my case of study
For my discussion, I have chosen a violation of privacy as my case of study. This is because most of the people’s privacy has been disclosed to society without their willingness. Some of the intimacy that has been revealed is health privacy. The health status of an individual should not be published to the community unless by their choice. Health workers should ensure that all their patients’ privacy has been maintained, and there is no even at a single time, they will be disclosed.
For this case, let’s take a scenario of a person suffering from covid-19. The health care staff has to decide on whether to keep this secret or to disclose it. There is a dilemma that if they publish it without a choice of the victim, they will have violated his rights and if they keep quiet on the issues, more people who come in to contact with him may be infected. Different steps are involved before making a decision. The last step is to gather the fact. This is where testing is done, which will prove that the victim is suffering from the disease. The second step would be determining ethical issues. In this, there will be a comparison between what the nurses will be giving as medication and what the family would wish to provide.
The third step is the determination of values and principles present in the case. Following that, covid-19 is a dangerous disease, and some treatments have to administer. This is to ensure that further spread of the disease has been discouraged. Moreover, there will be the inclusion of the family members to gather their views on the matter. On the other hand, taking care of others is a Biblical concept and should be considered. The fourth case would be a list of the alternatives. Here, the doctor convinces the family members of the seriousness of the diseases and the dangers it can course into the community and the nation.
Furthermore, they will give the merit of making the case known. The other step will be comparing the alternatives with the virtues. This is where all the information received from the family and the nursing department will be analyzed.
The sixth step is the consideration of the consequences. If the information is not disclosed, the patient will continue being stressed on the nature of the disease suffering from. Furthermore, there will be a possibility of more spread of the conditions, and many people may die from it. However, the family will be pleased. If the information is disclosed, the family will not be pleased, they will lose confidence with the hospital, and they may even transfer the patient to another hospital.
Nevertheless, this act will help in preventing further spread, the patient will be taken to the special care unit, and special treatment will be administered to him. It’s a man’s responsibility to ensure that he has saved a life. This is from the Biblical teaching on humankind. If any death occurs for a man being ignorant of his responsibilities, there will be a judgment to be passed. The last step is decision making. The best decision, in this case, would be disclosing the information and let it know but fail to reveal the name of the patient.
In conclusion, I would recommend forums where family members will be taught about the risks associated with the disease. Additionally, they will be informed on the advantages of notifying others on the presence of the virus, key measures that they have to take to ensure that they aren’t victims, as well as how they should relate with the victim. Besides, they will be assured that the details of the victim will not be disclosed. Furthermore, the assurance of total care to be provided to the victim should be given to the family members. The final I propose is taking the victim to a special care unit for further treatment.
