Interprofessional collaboration can be defined as a way of communicating and working together with other stakeholders involved in the care of patients (Nock, 2020). Research has shown that when there are collaborative efforts among different professions within the hospital, there is positive response and improvement in terms of efficiency (Morley & Cashell, 2017). It also provides a change in patients’ behavior in giving accurate information, the importance of taking part in decision making and taking care of themselves. The paper will provide an example of how interprofessional collaboration has lead to improved patient outcomes.

Radiology is one of the departments in a hospital that involves several healthcare providers. It revolves around collaborative efforts, among other environmental work factors such as culture and the process of learning. In this department, the most vital goals required are safety for patients and the assurance of quality services. Radiation medicine is prone to errors if necessary steps and procedures are not followed. A successful radiation practice relies upon if various activities each given by distinct people of distinct professions (Morley & Cashell, 2017).

A radiation treatment regime involves a radiation oncologist whose work is to give orders on the intention of the treatment and a regime to the rest of the team. Therapists specialized in radiation cases for patients who may need therapy as a result of immobility. A treatment plan construction for radiation patients involves the radiation therapists, oncologists, medical doctor. The development of target tissue contours is done by oncologists, therapists, nurses, and other professions. Delivering treatment provided for the patients involves the efforts of the nurses and therapists (Morley & Cashell, 2017)..

In conclusion, the above professions each have the same goals putting into consideration the needs and goals of the patients: each profession inputs specific roles, abilities, and authority in the overall outcome.
