The learning and development leadership program are for the leadership of Equity Electronics Company. The company deals with the manufacture and delivery of electronic equipment. It is located in Wilmington, Delaware. The company has been in operation for the last 15 years, and it is one of the highly profitable companies in the United States. The company has expanded its operations to Canada and Mexico too. The paper presents a learning and development leadership program for the company’s 50 management and executives in leadership teams across four different departments: sales, marketing, finance, and engineering in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The leadership program is aimed at ensuring that the leaders understand the culture and the needs of the company, especially in the changing business environment. Therefore, the leadership strategy is that of delegating and empowering these teams. The vision for the strategy is to give the team the ability to understanding the business environment and to ensure that they have helped the company in achieving its goals.
There are various ways through which the leadership capabilities can be assessed. One of the ways is through the use of the emotional intelligence assessment tool. This tool will help in identifying the intelligence levels of these leaders. The tool can also help in evaluating the performance feedback once the development program comes to an end.
Different tools can be used to identify the leadership capabilities in the various departments. The two most essential tools that span these departments are the Situational judgment tests (SJTs), and the Assessment centers and simulations. Using the SJTs, the leaders from the four departments will be provided with various sample situations that they may encounter in the different work environments along with how they will handle these situations. The Assessment centers and simulations are similar to the Situational Judgment Tests. The leaders in these departments will be provided with a wide range of exercises and leadership scenarios. These are important, especially for the sales and finance departments where financial and business data exercises and scenarios are provided. These leaders will be expected to analyze these scenarios and provide solutions to them. As the leader of the training program, I will collect the results and offer an overall assessment score.
A formal approach will be used when designing the development approach for these leaders because of the differences in the cultures of the countries that these leaders are working in. The leaders will be provided with challenging assignments. In these assignments, the leaders will be exposed to various experiences that will test and also expand their abilities to handle various issues and scenarios. This will be conducted across the departments because regardless of the countries, the various challenges are universal. Secondly, training will be used to help the leaders to develop the competencies needed to operate in the changing business environment. In the development program, the training will be conducted when these leaders provide feedback about what they need to know to achieve a specific result in their areas of operations.
The leadership development program will help the leaders to have the capability of steering the company in the changing business environment. It will help these leaders to be apt with the various situations and how to overcome the challenges in the business environment. It is important to note that the leaders who have particular capabilities help their organizations to achieve their goals. This is what the leadership development program will impart to these leaders.
