Developing smart city through EMA modeling

The Exploratory Modelling Analysis (EMA) is a method used to analyze complex and uncertain systems by using computational analysis. Simply put, this model offers a computational decision making support in situations with uncertainties. It helps in eliminating the complexities in a case and helps in structuring the workflow in an organized manner so that the system is efficient.

EMA workbench provides support in conducting exploratory modeling. This is done with the help of already available models that were previously developed in various situations and environments. Establishing effective communication for smart city

Developing a smart city requires advanced technology and adequate advancements. For this, the necessary budget should be set up and maintained. The city should be mapped out correctly and planned. It is essential for a smart city to have an effective communication system that can connect people from various locales (Zhu et al., 2016). Since EMA workbench focusses on developing an effective communication system, it is the most suitable model for building a smart city. Using EMA workbench to design a smart city would ensure that all the major localities of the city are connected to every area within the city.

Implementing Traffic regulations and installing traffic lights

Another major point of concern is the traffic since it can cause delays in transportation systems. Traffic needs to be monitored and appropriately regulated so that the residents of the smart city can reach their destinations with minimum delay (Benevolo, Dameri, & D’Auria, 2016). In case of an emergency or an accident, an ambulance should pass freely through the traffic without any disturbance. Therefore, the traffic rules and systems should be based on EMA workbench and should be focused on emergency services. Smart traffic lights should be installed in every signal and crossroads to minimize the use of traffic police.

The traffic lights would assist in regulating traffic and help in reducing road congestions and traffic jams (Gupta et al., 2017). Artificial intelligence systems should be installed in the lights so that they can function according to the current traffic conditions. In this way, the energy consumption of the lights would also be in check and hence, minimized.

CCTV surveillance using WMA

For a centralized surveillance system in the smart city, it is very much essential to install Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV cameras). CCTV cameras would enable the police to monitor activities inside the city more efficiently by allowing them to monitor various areas of the city at the same time by providing real-time footage. This would also reduce crimes and control it so that the city remains crime-free.  Also, it would help the traffic authority to monitor traffic congestions and take necessary measures (Hazra, Choudhury & Chattopadhyay, 2017).

The image quality of the cameras should be optimized for high resolution, and they should be workable under low lights and extreme weather conditions. Zooming feature should be available on the cameras so that an image can be enhanced and seen with a close-up angle. The footages should be saved in servers so that it could be viewed again in case it is required to do so. This would also help the authorities in performing maintenance works since any unmaintained amenities within the city (like bridges, roads, and others) could be seen and recorded.

Additional benefits of WMA in smart cities

A smart city requires advanced technological innovations. For these, appropriate research should be conducted using WMA. Furthermore, necessary updates should be done from time to time so that the governing technology remains up to date. Using an EMA workbench also provides the scope for the planner to find out about any other processes which could be implemented in the smart city. A background check could be conducted on citizens and officials if needed using the WMA model. Also, licenses could be issued for driving taxis and other public and private transportation systems utilizing this system.
