Lack of concentration among university students
Lack of concentration among university students is attributed to several factors that eventually affects the cognitive level of the students.
Lack of concentration among university students is caused by various factors which include: poor diet and nutrition affect the level of attention. For example, low-fat acids ruin concentration because brain requires essential fatty acids in boosting focus. Moreover, amino acids are necessary for the synthesis of chemicals that are used for attention; hence low amino acids affect concentration. According to Jensen (2020) argued that dehydration leads to poor concentration in a classroom set up even having 1% lower than the optimal hydration. Hormonal fluctuations in women affect how women focus on learning environments such as menstruation period, pregnancy and menopause. Lack of enough sleep slows down the level of concentration. Ability to remember and synthesize new information for the sleepy student becomes a challenge. Stress factors affect students negatively (Bernal-Morales, 2018). Stressed student’s records low level of concentration, especially when it becomes chronic such as emotional stresses. The discussed factors such as stress, lack of enough sleep, hormonal fluctuations and poor diet are some of the reasons for poor concentration.
Lack of concentration among students influences negatively learning process in the university. The following are effects of poor concentration: Lack of enough sleep makes students less active and reduces accuracy and mental performance. If a lack of sleep among students becomes chronic and long-term, it becomes a norm and affecting learning negatively, leading to poor performance (Jensen, 2013). Stress leads to mental exhaustion, which affects cognitive level among students. Bernal-Morales (2018) stated that poor concentration leads to poor organization among students, which affects them later on in their life. Students suffering from poor concentration are easily distracted and seems to be lazy when it comes to learning processes. Such students may become overactive and unable to focus in a learning environment. Therefore, reduced learning accuracy, learning distraction and poor performance are effects associated with poor performance.
In conclusion, factors leading to poor concentration consequently affects the learning process negatively.
