Would I Embalm A Case Of Kaposi Sarcoma

As an embalmer, I would agree to embalm this case patient as Kaposi Sarcoma is only easily transferable majorly to immune-compromised patients, and it spreads mainly through saliva sexual contact or in maternal and child interactions. Moreover, cancer affects blood vessels, which develop on the soft tissue of a patient giving them a lesion-like structure. As long as I wear protective gear to protect myself from coming into contact with the deceased patient’s body fluid, it should not be a problem handling this case.

Process And Precautions Of Embalming

  • The first step would be to be extremely cautious by preventing cuts, grazes and plopping of plasma and body liquids from the deceased.
  • Amour myself with two pairs of latex gloves and scrutinize them for any tares or leakages, where if any tares are present, I should remove the gloves rewash my hands and wear two more new pairs.
  • put on a facial shield and eye goggles to shield me from splattering fluids
  • Judiciously place the body on examination bench while avoiding putting pressure on the stomach and thorax. Additionally, unwrap the body gradually and prudently place the body bag in a disposal bin.
  • Sterilize the body and after that, wash it with a disinfectant soap and while keeping water pressure low to avoid splattering, rinse the frame thoroughly.
  • Bandage lesions with cotton bandages that are saturated with sodium hypochlorite.
  • Shave the deceased with a disposable blade.
  • Conceal the face with a cloth saturated in disinfectant.
  • In case the deceased had an autopsy done, cover the ribs with a cloth and eliminate innards bag and place it in a throwaway container.
  • Get rid of body fluids and cover draining port to avoid splattering.
  • Before flashing out blood and body fluids into the sewer, treat with disinfectants.
  • Marinate spills of blood on the body with disinfectant by use of cloth.
  • Rewash the body with disinfectant, rinse and dry with a disposable towel.
  • Cloth the body with plastic gadgets before dressing it.
  • Get rid of any gadgets used to apply cosmetics and dispose of any remaining cosmetics.
  • If I get a cut, I should leave the area instantly, let the wound bleed freely disinfect and get speedy action. Additionally, if eyes got any splattering of body fluids from the deceased, I should wash them instantly with running water and get medical advice.
  • After completion of the preparation of the patient, I should remove all protective clothing and gloves, disinfect my hands and leave the room.
