Transit-Book Report Page 1-53

Transit is regarded as Rachel Cusk’s second installment. The book cumulatively affects post-divorce trilogies that begun right from Outline. Rachel gives us probing, exciting conversations that exist between Faye and her unmoored marriage breakup. Faye being confounded by various trajectories in her life, she decides to listen to other peoples stories and acquire wisdom from these stories. The book traces Faye’s passage from a shaky situation to a more stable and robust ground. In Transit, the story of Faye shifting to London. The author talks about how Faye has moved from her marriage alongside her two sons. This particular narrative gets mainly focused on the two weeks, whereby Faye’s sons had to stay with their father.

The fact that her sons live with their father, Faye gets free evenings to party and attend awful parties during dinner time. Moreover, two leitmotifs keep bringing Faye to earth. Despite everything that is happening to Faye, she is adept when it comes to eliciting other people’s vulnerabilities. She nearly adopts a therapeutic kind of stance whereby she draws people out as she offers herself (Rachel 45).  Furthermore, themes of change, loneliness, adaptation, and abandonment keep on appearing multiple times as Faye moves through her life of transformation. Faye begins to forge connections in conversations that have a wrong beginning. Faye musters basic understanding even in her depiction of the awful dinner party set by her cousin’s.  Cusk’s prose is precise and straight to the point. As Transit talks about life and art in general, it fills in the sketched-out form that got introduced in Outline. Rachel further explains how her narrator tends to find her bearings.

The language used in this novel is exact, vivid, and spare. Faye was seen to desire change, but no avail. Faye moves ahead to dye her hair. In her new attempt of coloring her hair, the grey color tends to appear, and her hairdresser advises her not to go back to the natural hair color.  The hairdresser claims that Faye would look more real. Her comments bring out violence. The scene leads to an outburst that creates a disturbance. In the entire novel, we see that aggression and threats embraced. The two burst out and create an unpleasant environment. Cusk gets fascinated by how the civilized and greatly ritualized situation carries along with hidden charges of aggression and cruelty among these individuals. Cusk goes ahead to describe these culminating scenes with an accuracy that is triumphant that significantly verges on surreal..

In this strange face of transformation, Faye acts like an angel by giving herself to multiple people. She doesn’t care what people have to say about her. Faye is too open to people, and some take advantage of her focusing on their comments about her personality. She tends to cover everything and sugarcoat situations. The mood of a controlled kind of excitement and melancholy is highly visual in this novel. She never confesses or gushes at anything. The narrator got involved with the chairman, who escorted her home from the hotel where they were having fun. The author brings out different themes, and she explains various scenarios. The language used is precise enough to depict every circumstance that is happening here.
