In my current job as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant I have gained an insight into mental health whilst working with vulnerable children in year 6 who struggled with their emotional and psychological well-being due to dealing with myriad of problems. A child who suffered from a high level of anxiety that hugely impacted on her mental and emotional well-being. To support the child we kept a stress journal, talked about breaking big tasks in smaller steps. We practised positive self-talk and being less self-critical by recognising her true strengths. For students to flourish as well-rounded individuals, a happy, safe learning environment rooted in strong, core moral values must be established.
