Dr. Martin Luther King
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” (Links to an external site.) In your experience either as a manager or as an employee, think of a time where you faced a moment of challenge or crisis. In one paragraph, summarize what that challenge or crisis was. Next, write a separate section of the paper to address each of the following questions: (Links to an external site.) What leadership behaviors came to the forefront (yours or your manager’s) during that “moment of truth?” How would you characterize the ethics of those behaviors (see the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics https://www.scu.edu/ethics/ethics-resources/ethical-decision-making/ (Links to an external site.) )? Evaluate the ethics of those behaviors using the dimensions of utility, rights, fairness, the common good, and virtue. [unique_solution]In what ways did those behaviors have an effect on employee motivation? (Integrate motivation theories we have studied in class into your response.) What political dynamics were reflected in the behavior? (Integrate theories of politics and conflict that we have covered in class into your response.) Given what you know of contingency leadership theories, if you could revise what happened, what leadership style(s) would you select to apply to the challenge or crisis instead, and why? In what ways, if any, could teams of employees have been used to help cope with the challenge or crisis, and why would they have been useful? Taking into account what you leaned in this course, what are the three most significant points you have learned from this experience? Explain. With the opening paragraph, the paper should be five to eight pages in length. Include two outside references (beyond the text book) to support your analysis.
