Handling students

Case Study

Typically, handling students is a complex process that requires educators to pursue an in-depth understanding of their learners’ surroundings. That is because if they fail to do so, they might not have the right methods to achieve the desired objectives of their endeavors. In so doing, they get to develop beliefs that correspond with the various situations in which students find themselves. Moreover, the approach highlighted above would also enable the teacher to unveil the students’ problem and thus respond to them appropriately.

In light of the information presented above, Jessica is a grade three student that would lead an educator into believing that she is an above-average student that is encountering challenges from home that affect her learning process. Thus, the implication is that the student mentioned above lacks proper parenting. It also means that she is psychologically disoriented and therefore requires the ability to concentrate and make most out of her classes. Besides, the fact that she is the one that takes care of her siblings implies that she even does not get the required learning material. Therefore, the teacher, in this case, should try to contact her parents, and if she doesn’t have any, then the educator should find a way she and the siblings can access foster care.

However, before executing the course of action cited above, the teacher should take advantage of an incident whereby Jessica has not completed her classwork and take her aside. Having done so, the teacher should then engage the student in conversation that will facilitate the discernment of the fact that the student takes care of her siblings. After that, if the teacher finds out that she indeed does so, then he or she should inform the administration, which will, in turn, ensure that Jessica is provided with alternative care, probably in the form of foster care. Also, the teacher should try to inquire about her history from other teachers.

On the other hand, in dealing with Ryan’s case, the teacher should first try to establish the cause of the consistent lack of interest in classwork and aggression towards fellow students. To achieve that appropriately the teacher should seek the assistance of a counselor. If, as a result of counseling, it turns out that the aggression is a result of substance abuse, the teacher should call Ryan’s parents and discuss with them the problem before recommending a rehabilitation center with the helper of the involved counselor. However, if the problem is as a result of other factors such as peer pressure, then the teacher should schedule regular counseling sessions for him until he appears to be more responsible in his activities at school. In addition to the course of action mentioned above, the teacher should also evaluate his or her teaching style and the way it affects Ryan. By doing so, he or she will also be to establish how effective the method he or she is using is as far as the other students are concerned.
