Technology Accessibility denotes to tools that can be used flawlessly by people with a wide range of disabilities and abilities. When technology is accessible, all users’ interaction with it is secure in ways that work best for them. Technology accessibility can r be directly available, whereby it accessible and can be used without additional assistive technology, or it is compatible with Assistive technology. Over the years, technology has evolved so fast; it is rapidly changing people’s lives by making things easier and better for them. It is continuously being altered, developed and improved, and it seems like it is changing on a daily basis. With the rise of information and communications technology, there are new hopes for technology being inclusive of people with diverse needs. Despite stumbling blocks, there are notable efforts in implementing the use of information technology to combat the obstacles of the disabled. The information society is representative of significant opportunities as well as potential barriers to comprehensive technology.
Technology use among adults varied significantly, mostly influenced by sociodemographic and health status—the prevalence of technology among people with activity-limiting impairments and disability. The text messaging, internet and e-mails might be viable channels for health communication and promotion, especially for younger cohorts of adults and those with impairments and less severe disabilities. The American with Disabilities Act has increasingly improved the lives of people living with disabilities by removing all physical barriers applied in technology operations (Hums, Schmidt, Novak & Wolff, 2016). For people living with disabilities, all-inclusive technology can be life-changing. New technologies have the potential of enhancing technology accessibility for people with disabilities and to contributing to eliminating barriers.
Lack of technology accessibility is seen as a digital divide against disabled people. New technology must be structured, designed and made-up to outset their availability and usability for disabled people. Discrimination in designing and development approach for people with disabilities are forced to try out catch-up techniques which are an undesirable and expensive path. It is essential to note that it doesn’t matter the stage of technology development; disabled people advocates and others who may be interested can work together to certify that barriers are eliminated, and all everyone uses technology responsibly.
