The insights captured in this work presents some practical implications on the performance of the institution where I am currently attached to. I work in a mobile telecommunications operator, which specializes in authenticating consumer devices on networks, offering voice calls, messaging, and internet access, among many other services. For the period I have stayed in this enterprise, I have noted that it takes a long time for the management to respond to the needs of the market. The main contributing factor to this problem is the bureaucratic decision-making procedure, characterized by the presence of multiple committees. Besides, the chief executive officer must be present in every committee proceedings before a resolution is being made.

Consequently, this practice denies the firm an opportunity to respond to a rapidly changing environment swiftly. The findings of the present study come at a convenient time to shed some insights about the approaches the company can take to improve its performance. Notably, it provides specific issues that enable firms to respond to the rapidly changing environment, and as a result, gain a competitive advantage.

The main implication of the outcomes of the current study on my employer is the need for the adoption of a dynamic capability-based management system. In principle, a company’s dynamic capabilities include the ability to integrate, establish, and remould both internal and external competences to respond to emerging business environments (Baškarada & Koronios 2018).

Consistently, the transformation from the bureaucratic management model to an agility-based approach is what my employer requires to achieve the capability needed to respond to the market demands effectively. Organizational agility refers to the capacity to respond to changes in the environment by swiftly adjusting product or service offerings (Baškarada & Koronios 2018). Within the current management style, the firm where I work, this capability has been a standout impediment because of the bureaucratic mechanism in which critical decisions are made. Overall, the adoption of agility can enable the firm to realize the benefits of dynamic capabilities outlined in this paper.

To start with, the outcome of the study underlines the importance of dynamic capabilities in identifying opportunities or threats in a timely manner. Through an agility management style, employees can use a range of information tools to detect some of the exciting opportunities that can be exploited to move the enterprise forward. Similarly, they can use this form of decision-making approach to identify prospective threats and propose appropriate measures swiftly. Nonetheless, these benefits may not be realized within an agile management system like the one being pursued by my employer. While employees may have information concerning interesting ideas about opportunities and threats, they may struggle to share them because of the bureaucratic process they will have to undergo. Therefore, it is important for the firm to shift to an agile model to achieve the dynamic capability required for opportune identification of opportunities and threats.

The outcome of the present study also underscores the criticality of the dynamic capabilities of the exploitation of opportunities. Being a communication provider, my employer is highly placed to access a myriad of ideas that can be utilized for competitive advantage. Essential to making this ability possible is having the dynamism required to make the corresponding decisions. On the contrary, my employer’s bureaucratic decision-making approach does not provide a conducive environment to exploit opportunities promptly. For this reason, the evidence outlined in this study highlights the necessity for the company to adopt an agile management style to gain the capabilities required for opportunity exploitation.

Furthermore, the current study underlines the importance of dynamic capabilities in managing threats. Like in any other industry, the telecommunication sector, in which my employer operates, faces many challenges. Therefore, effective responses to these problems are critical to obtaining an organizational competitive advantage. As outlined in this study, dynamic capabilities allow companies to address emerging threats effectively. While this ability is possible, my employer faces difficulties because of the impediments caused by the bureaucratic decision-making process. For my company to achieve the required dynamic capabilities, it ought to transform from the existing management style to an agility-based framework. Overall, the present study demystifies the significance of adopting efficient management practices to improve organizational performance.
