different sections of security management and how they affect the security industry

Introduction

Security management has taken a different approach system to define various forms of transformations and inputs in a variety of security functions together with quantifiable deliverables. Security management has taken into account aspects such as leadership, Management, accountability, and culture. Security functions in security management include planning and finance. The present essay shall be analyzing the different sections of security management and how they affect the security industry.

Over time there have been two perspectives scholars use to define the word leadership. One definition is that leadership is a way through which people can be mobilized or directed in a certain way to achieve specific objectives, goals, and shared interests. Another way to look at the term is by saying it represents those people who are in formal positions in any environment, be it official or non-official. Leadership is ageless, while Management was only created a century ago. Management was invented to help create order and consistency to realize profitability. The concept of Management revolves around making budgets, staffing, critical thinking, and controlling. The latter, on the other hand, was not created intentionally to bring order and consistency. Still, instead, society has seen it bringing change sometimes for the better and other times for the worst. Leadership revolves around inspiring and motivating employees, aligning people, and lastly, diving direction (Kotter, 2008).

During the ’80s, firms in the United States recorded poor performances because most people directing the firms were leaders and not managers. They provided strong leadership but weak Management, and, in the end, it reflected negatively on company performances.

A policy, according to (Krishna, 2008) is a guide used to set boundaries to give limits to which managerial personnel can work with. Policies are meant to direct people how to carry out certain tasks; they are used as guidelines to lead people during decision-making procedures. Many types of policies exist in different places of work, for instance, marketing policy, training policy, safety policy, housing policy, and recruitment policy.

A procedure, on the other hand, is a guideline used to enforce policies. Systems align a comprehensive set of directions to perform specific tasks and actions. They are created after making a detailed analysis and after a need has arisen. In an organizational setup under alcohol and substance abuse policy, for instance, procedures like machines to be used to test alcohol levels in the blood can be implemented to ensure that the plan is effective.

Globalization can be defined as a way of integration and interactions between people of different nations or states. It is a continuous process brought about by information technology, which is being driven by numerous investments across the globe and international trade. Globalization started thousands of years ago as people began traded way back and would cross boundaries to do an exchange. Globalization has caused direct impacts on the wellbeing of people, cultures, their environment, economic development, and social lives of people all across the world.

The world has seen globalization impacting the security industry over the years, and most specifically, it has left tremendous impacts on the private security industry around the globe. The worldwide private security industry has been the focus of attention ever since the US military-led an invasion on Iraq soil back in 2003. There is so much expectation from the private security industry basing this on the fact that crime rates and incidences of insecurity have risen over the years, especially in developing nations (Kingshot, 2016). Globalization came with its technology, economic growth, and different forms of the revolution that also brought about social classes, increased crime rates, poorly developed infrastructure, and poverty, and this is mostly seen in developing countries. The need to intensify security, especially the private sector industry, intensified since States were not in positions to protect everyone and their businesses.

Intercultural competence is the ability to function effectively and efficiently under a different array of cultures regardless of religion. Intercultural competence allows one to work, think, communicate, and act acceptably in any form of civilization. It has allowed people to be able to interact across the world as society has thousands of cultures. Intercultural competence is of great importance as it contributes to creating an all-round individual who can relate to any person and any culture across the world. It helps people have the ability to connect and work anywhere. Intercultural competency is an advantage at places of work as it encourages good relationships between people (Wenzel, 2019).

Another advantage of intercultural competence is that it leads to higher productivity since the individuals involved are emotionally intelligent and are aware of how to handle themselves and other people. Productivity at work can only be realized when the people involved have committed themselves to be open-minded and to be able to interact with the different people they meet at work.

Conclusion

Many aspects contribute to security management and determine how a manager would turn out. Globalization, intercultural competency, ability to differentiate between policies and procedures, and finally, knowing what leadership and Management entail assists in molding a security manager.
