Life ambitions
We all have a difference in our life ambitions. In life, I wanted to be in a career that deals directly with people, rather than sitting behind the table in an office. I wanted a challenging career and a career that changes people’s lives. I choose to be a nurse since the job lets you interact with people in different aspects of care and eventually change their lives for good.
Success in any profession requires personal commitment, and it anchors on personal strengths. I have evaluated my self and realized that I am fit to be a nurse. First, I am self-motivated/outgoing. This is a personal attribute that enables one to break all the obstacles that stand in their way as they pursue their career. Secondly, I am assertive in every endeavor, and that means that I will be able to handle every problem that nursing entails confidently. I am also compassionate about other people’s wellbeing. Additionally, I am reliable and flexible. My flexibility will be useful as I compassionately endeavor to change lives. I will be readily available on call to help those in need. Finally, I have strong interpersonal skills, and hence, I will not have difficulties interacting with both workmates and patients. Communication makes everything easy and saves time. There are two crucial requirements for one to qualify to be a registered nurse. The first one has to do with educational qualifications. One has to have attained a bachelor’s degree in nursing, an associate degree in nursing, or a diploma in nursing. Besides, the educational certification must have been acquired in a school that is accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. They must also pass an examination by the National Council Licensure Examination-RN. Duties of a nurse include but not limited to administering primary care to patients, order, organize, and interpret the diagnostic test and administer medication as directed by the physician. The median annual salary for a nurse is $71730. By 2018, there were 3,059,800 nursing jobs. The job is expected to grow at a rate of 12% faster than the average growth. This trend is an indication that the job has a bright future. There will always be job openings in this field.
From Houston Community College Career coach, the normal pay for a registered nurse is $79 665 pa. Registered Nurses are paid better in Houston as compared to the national median salary. The implication is that the salary for a registered nurse different based on aspects such as geographical location. Memorial Hermann Health System, Houston Methodist, and HCA Holdings are the three companies offering the highest number of openings for nurses in that order. Although Houston Methodist Hospital is the second in a number of openings for nurses, it is my dream company after graduation. I have looked at the extra programs that they offer for nurses, and I believe it is the best place to grow professionally. They have an alumni program that enables sharing between alumni, education programs to further your knowledge and facilitated multiple career paths. These programs will help me become an established and established nurse that I wish to be.
Nursing requires job-related soft skills such as empathy, communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Soft skills are mostly acquired through volunteer programs. I think Heart to Heart Hospice would be the best place to acquire empathy. They need volunteers to keep patients company. The volunteer will keep the patient engaged by talking or even watching TV with them. It is a situation that requires the volunteer to feel the patient and establish an emotional tie and understanding. This way, one grows to be empathetic. Also, the situation will help the volunteer develop communication techniques to socialize with patients and people with a special need. Pasadena-Altadena Community Youth Association is another appropriate organization. They have the Hurricane Harvey Relief Aid-Backpack Drive 4 Homeless US Vets, a program in which volunteers go round, dropping backpacks with supplies and personal utilities to support victims of the hurricane and the homeless. One can only reach such people by creating an emotional link with them and making them feel loved. This facilitates empathy. Also, the program is done in a team, so communication and teamwork skills will be developed.
In conclusion, becoming a registered nurse is my dream career. However, it is a long journey that has obstacles to face. One such obstacle is competition. The nursing field is becoming overpopulated, and soon there will be more candidates than the market can absorb. To overcome this, I am going to read harder and pursue the relevant volunteer and charity programs to attain the best qualifications possible. The second probable hindrance is the NCLEX exam. Many have failed this examination and had their journeys cut shot. I will acquire the review book and start preparing as early as possible. I have to be ready for everything. Being a nurse finally will be the best thing in my life. I will be the happiest man, doing what I enjoy, earning from it, and supporting my life and those of my family members.
