Health insurance covers in New York City

Introduction

Accessibility to quality health care is vital for promoting health, managing, and preventing diseases. It reduces unnecessary disabilities and premature deaths, together with the achievement of health equity to all American citizens. Insurance cover plays a vital role in New York City as many of the people who are under this cover enjoy much of health benefits, especially today when there are occurrences of deadly diseases like cancer (Philpotts, 2018). Insurance covers are of many benefits as it solves most of the health barriers like; high costs of care, delays in receiving appropriate health care, inability to get preventive services, financial burdens during the occurrence of a disease, and also lack of emergency care after admission in a health facility. Health insurance cover, therefore, helps patients get direct entries into the health facilities. Lack of this insurance coverage, therefore, makes it very hard for patients to acquire the health care they need and also protect them from large medical bills as the cost is directed to the insurance companies (Romo, 2016). There are different types of insurance covers in New York City.

In New York City, a lot of funds have been launched in the health insurance program to cover the increased number of insured residents who cannot afford the insurance coverage together with those living there for a while. This helps in the protection of the health population from being infected by the other community that cannot afford proper health care due to financial constraints (Cahill, 2017). De Blasio said that no one should go without medical supervision as health care is part of human rights. Therefore everyone in New York City is guaranteed rights to good health care. This plan, according to Blasio, would be funded without a tax increase to the residents, and it provides insurance cover for visits to doctors outside the hospital.

The cover would be affordable to those who can pay a portion of the costs, and those who cannot pay should receive the health care for free.  The following are the primary health insurance covers that have been there in New York City:

  • Medicaid insurance cover
  • Child health plus insurance cover

Qualified health plans insurance cover: This is private health insurance covers for an individual with middle or low incomes or salaries which cannot acquire the Medicaid insurance cover. The individuals in this coverage are eligible for financial aids to help them pay for their health costs in hospitals. This insurance cover is managed by private insurance companies rather than the New York state. This is bought from the New York state market place. In this insurance policy, any person can buy it, and the financial help will be factored in depending on a person’s level of income. This cover insurance cover helps much to people of the age of 65years (Newman, 2019). Also, new undocumented workers are eligible for qualified health plans insurance directly from those health insurance companies.

Essential plan insurance cover: This cover is meant for low-income state residents who are earning a low amount of money every month. This program was created to factor the individuals and families that don’t qualify for the Medicaid insurance covers. In this insurance plan, they consider the income requirements of an individual, aging in and aging out of an individual, and residential and immigration status (Cram, 2020). In this low and moderates income, families that are the citizens of New York City and also legally permitted immigrants are entitled to this insurance policy (Griffin, 2019).

On aging in and aging out, the only individuals factored under this health insurance cover are those aged between 19 and 65 years old. This is because those who are above 65years are factored in the qualified health insurance plan, and below 19 years are catered under Medicaid insurance cover. In essential medical insurance cover, the following are covered; pediatric services, preventive services, rehabilitative services and devices, prescription drugs, maternity, and newborn care, hospitalization, emergency services, and ambulatory patience services (Courtemanche, 2019).

Medicaid insurance cover:  this medical insurance cover belong to those who cannot pay for medical care. It provides for a couple of medical benefits, but in some circumstances, you may not be covered due to either family situations, financial conditions, the age of an individual, and transfer of resources requirements and living arrangement. For those enrolled in a managed care plan have an added advantage, they can use either of the cards. For one to be eligible for this cover must be over the age of 65 years, blind or disabled, be pregnant or have a kid of 18years or below and also have a parent, child, or a spouse in your residential occupation who may physically challenge (Williamson, 2020). This cover is of more importance to the New York City residents as it takes care of the disabled group who in other countries are alienated and ignored from the public affairs.

Child health plus insurance cover: This health insurance cover takes care of children and kids under the age of 19 years and below. It offers medical care to children who not eligible for Medicaid care either due to emigrational status or other factors. Children under this insurance cover are guaranteed for one-year health insurance coverage regardless of their income guidelines.

Apart from covering of under 19 years children it also children from those families whose income are below 160% of the federal poverty level, residential of new York city, no resource or assets test, citizens and immigrants of new York city and those who cannot be covered in other health insurance coverage. This group receives pharmacy care, family planning care, primary care, preventive care, specialty care, and inpatient care. This health insurance policy is of much importance as it caters to all the children’s health care regardless of whether you are the citizen or an immigrant to New York City.

Comparing to other nations and metropolitan cities, we can say that New York City is far much ahead in the health sector as almost every citizen is covered in multiple insurance covers in the health sector. Through these benefits, then people can live without fear of death due to a lack of funds access to medical care (Allende, 2019). It also not ethnic affiliated as we can see also those are immigrants to the religion enjoys similar benefits the citizens enjoy. It is due to this that the infant mortality rate is increasing at a high price because there is an assurance that no children will die due to a lack of medical attention (Ostow, 2018). This also helps those in the aging years and those who are disabled to live without any complications or challenges in medical care.
