SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS CAN CHANGE FOR THE BETTER, AND WORSE, OVER THE LIFE COURSE
Each essay question should have a full single space 12 font paragraph explaining why you chose that question from the several available for that chapter. • Beyond the explanation for the student choice of the essay question, each essay should be a minimum of one page single space typed 12 font. • Content from each of the important course components [relevant videos, readings and textbook chapter(s)] should be used in the essays. • Concepts (terminology) should be used “in context” and never defined in the essays. When writing people use words without defining them. The same applies here with the use of terminology. • Concepts and ideas from the videos should be used, but only in a way that makes their use similar to the use of terminology. • The essays need a cover page with your name, date, the course title and the course number provided • Of course the pages of essays should be stapled in the top left hand corner. • Use of slang should be avoided unless it is central to the gerontology point being discussed, and then it should be in quotation marks. • Finally, the essays need to be edited using spellcheck, grammar check, as well as, manually checked. Some examples of slang to be avoided are as follows: • Incorrect: I personally have been a caregiver for one of my grandparents. • Correct: I have been a caregiver for one of my grandparents. • Incorrect: I do like to see siblings share the responsibility of caregiving for elderly family members. • Correct: I like to see siblings share the responsibility of caregiving for elderly family members. • Incorrect: I actually enjoy caregiving activities that involve my grandmother. • Correct: I enjoy caregiving that involve my grandmother. • Incorrect: Caregiving for my maternal great aunt is a huge task. • Correct: Caregiving for my great aunt involves difficult and time consuming tasks. • Incorrect: Like I enjoy caregiving for my paternal grandfather. • Correct: I enjoy caregiving for my paternal grandfather. Additional Notes • This is a creative project, as well as, one meant to provide the student an opportunity to show a deep understanding of sociological perspectives of important gerontology issues. • Also, this is to be an individual project in its entirety. When people work as groups rather than alone it is obvious to instructors. Avoid this since it will lead to a greatly reduced grade. Failure to follow one or more of the instructions above will result in the loss of points. COVER PAGE 1PAGE SINGLE SPACED!!!
