Coronavirus: China no case of local transmission for the third day, Singapore records first two deaths.

Chinese authorities announced on Saturday that, for the third consecutive day, there were no cases of local transmission of Covid-19, but confirmed new infections originating from abroad.

The contagion rate has declined in recent weeks in China, while the rest of the world is taking steps to try to fight the pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday praised China’s success in controlling the outbreak in the city of Wuhan, where the virus was first identified late last year.

“Wuhan provides hope for the rest of the world that even the most severe situation can be turned around.”

“Of course, we must exercise caution; the situation can reverse. But the experience of cities and countries that have pushed back this coronavirus gives hope and courage to the rest of the world.” said WHO Secretary General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Geneva.

Some 56 million people in Hubei province, whose capital is Wuham, were subjected to a giant forced quarantine in January, although local authorities began to minimize restrictions as the cases eased gradually.

However, China has stepped up controls to deal with infections brought in from other countries, with another 41 cases reported on Saturday, the highest daily figure to date.

In total, 269 cases were brought to China from abroad.

Beijing and other regions force those coming from another country to go through a 14-day quarantine.

At the same time, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced this week that it would limit the number of passengers on international flights.

More than 81,000 cases have been reported in China, although, according to the National Health Commission, only 6,013 patients still have symptoms of the disease.

The death toll in China, 3,255, was exceeded this week by Italy, where more than 4,000 people have died.

The pandemic has already infected more than 250,000 people worldwide, with more than 11,000 deaths.

Singapore records first two deaths

Singapore recorded the first two deaths from Covid-19 today as announced by the nation’s Ministry of Health.

The victims, a Singaporean aged 75 years and a 64 years old Indonesian, died this morning at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Center for Disease Infectious where they had been hospitalized on 23 February and 13 March respectively, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The state with 5.6 million inhabitants has registered 385 cases of Covid -19 to date, of which 190 are imported.

According to a study by Harvard University, the Singapore ability to detect cases of infection with the new coronavirus is up to three times higher than that of other countries, thanks to its sophisticated system of VIGILA INSTANCE epidemiological.

The country was one of the first to implement controls to detect the new coronavirus and close borders for travellers from China, except for nationals or foreigners residing in Singapore.

Later, it applied the same restrictions to travellers from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Iran and South Korea.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid -19 pandemic, has so far infected more than 265,000 people worldwide, of whom more than 11,100 has since lost their lives.

Of the infected people, more than 90,500 have recovered from the disease.
