Social media is useful for marketing businesses as it provides a global audience, creates a lasting approach to passing information, and offers an opportunity for growing the brand image. The increasing use of social media across the globe is increasing the number of audience that a company can reach with one or more posts on their pages. For instance, Tumblr is an essential digital marketing tool because brands can post photos and GIFs to engage their audience visually; and use texts post to explain the uploaded content.

Industries use Tumblr to achieve business milestones. An example of these industries is the entertainment industry; it has successfully managed to use Tumblr to advertise, market new brands, and to engage their audience continually. The entertainment industry comprises; TV shows, fashion and design, Art, magazines, and movies; companies from these industries have adopted the use of visuals to communicate with their audience on Tumblr. Other industries using Tumblr are in manufacturing and food. For example, the companies that manufacture cars can use Tumblr to share pictures of their latest automobile and Coca-cola launch a marketing campaign through uploading and sharing images to speak to engage their audience.

Many popular companies use Tumblr as a social media tool to launch new products, to advertise, to relay information, and to involve young audiences. Some of the top brands that have effectively used Tumblr are Coca-cola, Lexus, Life Magazine, and Calvin Klein. A good example is the Coca-cola Tumblr blog, ‘Happiness is,’ which shares catchy images that trigger happiness and a refreshing sensation to reach teen audiences. The initiative of the campaign is to improve customer loyalty among the young audience by uploading content from the budding bloggers globally and incorporating it in the Coca-cola Tumblr blog.

Tumblr is beneficial for those companies targeting a young audience and also applying visual content on Tumblr to attract the young audience. Many youngsters embrace Tumblr because other social media tools are intruded continuously by increased advertising. Tumblr has a massive database of blogs compared to any blog site; also, digital marketers can use Tumblr to gain followers and market their brands. Therefore it offers a significant number of audiences for brands to engage. Tumblr has a simple interface that supports interactions between digital marketers and other users. Other features like the Do-follow links and SEO options have made Tumblr very reliable in digital marketing.

Tumblr also can be ineffective because it has a limited target audience, and companies may not be able to communicate with all audiences. Other companies who have no interest in the younger audience may find Tumblr less effective. Tumblr is time consuming compared to other social media tools because it requires many regular uploads daily to engage the users. Companies with many daily posts may not succeed by using Tumblr in marketing campaigns. Finally, Tumblr does not allow its users to self-host their website; therefore businesses with websites risk losing their sites in any case Tumblr closes down. The small businesses often use the templates provided by Tumblr to create websites, and more often than not, the websites created are also their official websites hence putting them at risk.

The entertainment industry is one industry that would benefit from using Tumblr because its content is appealing to most youngsters and the most prominent followers of the industry, the youth. Additionally, the industries are likely to benefit from constant interactions with the audience regularly. The political industry and health industries less likely to benefit from Tumblr because their contents are not always a topic of interest.
