7 Ways to Make Your Eyes Look a Lot Bigger!

It’s a universal beauty standard that bigger eyes make a person look more attractive and younger. So, if you want to fake Bambi-like eyes, here’s how to go about it lovelies:

How to make your eyes look bigger with makeup

Step 1: Conceal and correct

Apply concealer or skin color pencil all over the eyelid to create a nice, even canvas for the steps to come. And when it comes to concealers, Instagram makeup artists HUDABEAUTY says you should always use the right concealer shade. The wrong concealer for your eyes can bring out the opposite effect – make your eyes look tiny!

Apply concealer on your eyelid using a ZOEVA 102 SILK Finish foundation brush over the top of your natural crease and up to your socket line. And once you’ve got your foundation in place, set it in place using a translucent skin powder such as the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. But don’t put too much in place because it will appear cakey.

You can also pack a bright white shimmery shadow on top of the foundation instead of the translucent powder. A shimmery shadow will brighten the area up, making it stand out and look bigger.

Step 2: Sculpt you eye

The next step is to contour your eyelid. Utilizing your entire eyes space well is the secret to making your eyes look bigger. Simply putting white eyeliner on your eyelid without utilizing the entire eye space well won’t make your eyes look bigger!

So, according to YouTube Makeup artist StephanieLange, you can create a new shape of your eye by applying a shadow color that mimics your natural skin complexion above your natural crease and into the socket.

When picking a contour palette, select the one with multiple shades because every unique shade has a purpose, including concealing and correcting various skin concerns. Using a contour palette for the first time can be scaring, experts say you should go with a cheaper but all-inclusive palette; that way, when practicing, washing, and starting over, again and again, you won’t feel like you have wasted a lot of bucks.

Remember not to apply the eyeshadow on your brow bone or eyelid; just work it into your crease. Contouring your browbone makes it look pushed-back.

Step 4: Make your lash lines look thicker

Apply a brown or black eye pencil (for those with a darker skin complexion) right at the base of your upper lashes. Eyelash pencil doesn’t have to be perfect, but using a well-sharpened pencil allows you to get between the lashes and really make them thicker.

There’s a misconception that applying too much liner can make your eyes look tinier. So, what you want to do is apply liner in a shape that creates a full lash line. Therefore, smudge the liner using a brush or Q-Tip through the roots of your top lash line and then wing it out just a little bit on the outer corners of the eye to make your eyes look longer with thicker and fuller lashes. If your eyes are apart, extend the eye pencil just a little bit more towards the nose to create a new inner corner.

For inner liners, nice cream color is good; it is going to make your eyes look bigger. Apply the cream color liner in your lower waterline, tear shaft and make it bigger in the front then drag it on the outer part of the eye. Failure to connect the inner liner to the outer liner is going to make your eye appear super open and super big.

Pro Tip: liners on the lower waterline do not last long because you blink so many times a day, so always travel with your liner and feel free to reapply whenever you enter a bathroom.

Step 4: Make your eyelids look bigger

You want to give an illusion of a more open eye with bigger and fresh eyelids, so take an eyeshadow that has a little bit of shimmer in it and apply it right in the middle of your eyelid. Also, apply a small amount of the shimmery shadow on your brow bone, just right under the arc to enhance the contour.

The Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to highlighting include: don’t use an eyeshadow that is too dark for your natural skin tone, instead use shimmery shadows that are close to your natural skin complexion. Applying colors that are too dark for your skin tone on your eyelid absorbs all the light from your crease, making your eye look tinier.

Step 5: Apply false lashes

You can also apply false lashes before curling. Don’t be afraid of big lashes, big lashes only get too heavy if you put them directly on your eyes, says HUDABEAUTY. So, lay the fake lash on your lash bed, ensure the inner corner is intact, then pinch the outer corner and apply it a little higher, and lastly, push the lush upwards, especially towards the ends to make your eyes look open.

Top Tip: when it comes to false lashes, always go for the right style that flatters your eye shape. Ever eye shape, whether almond, round, deep-seated, etc. needs a unique lash; otherwise, it brings out the opposite effect making the eyes look tinier.

Step 5: Curl your lashes

Get your beloved lash curler, warm it a little bit then use it to curl those lashes. According to Instagram-based makeup artist Ali Andreea, warming your curler makes those curls last a little bit longer.

Step 6: Apply volumizing mascara on your lashes

Take your favorite mascara and apply plenty of it on your eyelashes. Make sure you apply it right from the base and upwards to lift the eyelashes even more, but when it comes to lower lashes, only apply it on the tips.

Step 7: Lift the look of your eye corners

Next, add a little bit of the shimmery shadow to the inner corners of your eye just right on your tear dot. Adding a little bit of shimmer to the inner corners, especially if your eyes are close together, really opens them up, making them look nice and big when they sparkle just a little bit. So, to make your eyes look bigger and more awake, don’t skip this step.

For the outer corners of your eye, apply a deep brown matte eyeshadow directly underneath the lower lash line to define your eyes then place a tiny bit of your bright white shimmery highlight shade directly underneath the lower lashes, but only on the outer corners of your eye. Don’t pack a lot, just enough to lift the look of your outer corners and to make your eyes appear massive and more almond-shaped.

Lastly, contour the bottom lash line. You’ve already made eyelid look bigger, so make the eye space look bigger on the bottom too. So, bring the eyeshadow down further underneath the lower lash line and in towards the inner corners of your eye to sculpt your lower lash too.

Make sure you put the shadow far down, lower than the lower lash line, and also ensure the eyeshadow is matte. But don’t highlight the lower lash line. Highlighting right underneath the eye makes the eye look smaller.

You can finish the look by wearing waterlighter contacts; this step is optional, though. Contacts make the eyes look bigger by making the eye space brighter. This is a universal look if you have small eyes or want to make your eyes appear more open, fresh like you had 8-hours of sleep and are well-rested, feel free to rock this look.

Word of advice

Don’t forget to groom your brows. Nicely-groomed brows not only create balance and harmony but also accentuate the eyes. It’s so much easier to make your eyes appear bigger by elongating the tip of your eyebrow, so it flares towards the ears. So use a pencil to make your eyebrows a little bit softer then elongate them outwards.
