Washington was such an intelligent leader. His departing speech as he retired was an evidence of his brevity and goodwill for the nation he was going to leave in other hands. Although determined to retire, the tone in the speech makes him feel wistful. Wistful because he was leaving a nation that so dearly relied on him for prosperity. As such, Washington left the nation with convictional advice to continue to protect the unity and happiness of all nationals.
Washington is warry of the national unity of the nation. Although the regions are interdependent in a number of ways since each has a unique resource, the departing president feared that incoming political leaders and political ideologies would tear apart the bond. He, therefore, advises the people to firmly protect their liberties and unity because that is what will keep their happiness. To further cement this happiness, Washington advocates that the nation should not only be welcoming to citizens from outside but also endeavor to strengthen international ties that will open the nation to extra opportunities. However, he warns that this should be done carefully not to drain rob the country of its resources and values. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page

Secondly, America has opened its borders to literally the entire world. From this, the nation has continued to be the world’s economic and political superpower. However, the current administration is an example of self-centered leadership that Washington feared would weaken the nation. President Donald Trump has threatened national unity severally.
