  1. Summarize key results of each abstract and the limitations of each study

a.) A coconut extra virgin oil-rich diet increases HDL cholesterol and decreases waist circumference and body mass in coronary artery diseases patients

This abstract discusses the risk of extra virgin coconut oil-rich diet on whether it increases the high-density lipoprotein levels in coronary artery disease patients. The research was carried out to determine whether virgin coconut oil decreases body mass and waist circumference. The research was carried out on one hundred and sixteen coronary artery disease patients who were first subjected to a nutritional diet that did not include virgin coconut oil in all the diets of the patients. The second stage comprised dividing the patients into two categories, one that their diet included extra virgin oil while the other was fed on the free virgin coconut oil. After the specified period, it was observed that in both groups, there was a reduction in body mass, waists circumference, neck circumference and BMI. What was notable is that the group that had virgin oil in their diet had a significant difference of 2 cm loss, and their blood was found to have a higher level of high-density lipoprotein.

b.)  Soybean oil is More Obesogenic and Diabetogenic than coconut oil and fructose in Mouse

The results of this abstract are soybean oil increases obesity more than the consumption of coconut oil and fructose. Soya beans are highly concentrated in low-density lipoprotein.  There was a significant rise in the cases of overweight individuals, which led to the research being carried out. Soybean oil is a polyunsaturated fatty acids; it is for this reason that there are massive weight gain and an increase in the chances of contracting diabetes, cancer and insulin resistance.  Soybean oil was found to be diabetogenic because of the increase in glucose intolerance and insulin tolerance, which are associated with high blood sugar levels.

c.) Association of higher saturated fat intake with a higher risk of hypertension in an urban population of Trivandrum in South India.

The research was conducted, and it was observed that saturated fat is a risk factor of insulin resistance, which is a significant component in diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. One thousand four hundred ninety-seven individuals were randomly selected in south India to participate in a study that aimed at determining whether saturated fats increase the chances of contracting hypertension. The ages of the individuals that took part in the research ranged between age twenty-five to sixty-four years old.it was discovered that the consumption of food groups was good but the intake of vegetable, coconut and fruits was a concern, the individuals were also found to consume saturated fats often. Coconut oil, milk and saturated fats contributed significantly to hypertension. The results of the study were that salt intake, smoking and illiteracy were not associated with hypertension as previously thought. Saturated fat intake, age and body mass index were strongly associated with hypertension while coconuts, coconut oil and butter to be mildly associated with hypertension.

d.) The effect of coconut oil consumption on cardiovascular risk factors: A systematic review and meta- analysis of clinical trials

Coconut oil is one of the highly concentrated fats; therefore, it can increase cholesterol concentrations. A research was done to determine the effect of coconut oil consumption on blood fat concentration and cardiovascular risk factors compared to other cooking oils. It was found that coconut oil has higher low-density lipoprotein concentration in comparison to other vegetable cooking oil; therefore, it reduces cardiovascular risk factors.

  1. Is coconut oil good for my health?

Coconut oil is good for my health because of the health benefits that are derived from its consumption. Consumption of coconut oil reduces the risk of contracting diabetes, cancer, kidney infections, liver infections and Alzheimer’s. Coconut oil also assists in mineral absorption, digestive problems as well as building the immune system in people. Coconut oil can also be used in weight loss. Coconut oil is preferential to other cooking oils since it has a low-density lipoprotein, which is beneficial to the body as compared to other polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are attributed to hypertension and obesity.

Part 3

  1. Is Keto diet good, and why?

Keto diet is a good eating lifestyle that is characterized by eighty percent fat, fifteen percent protein and five percent carbohydrates. The meal is highly concentrated in calories that are derived from fats and low calories in carbohydrates. Keto diets have low concentrations of plant-based meals and high on animal-based foods such as bacon, eggs, meat and poultry.  Ketogenic diets are associated with reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels because of the increased metabolic activities that take place in the body. The diet is also followed by individuals who want to lose weight as one can lose weight without having to worry about their calorie levels and which type of food they consume. The keto diet is also useful in reducing the risk of contracting diabetes; the diet helps in reducing excess fats through increased metabolism, which reduces the risk of type two Diabetes. It also reduces the usage of medications by diabetic patients.

  1. Case study of Dietary behaviours

I will look at two case studies: Marisela’s case and Henry.

Marisela’s case

Marisela is a thirty-four-year-old who would like to lose 10 pounds. She eats out, does aerobic exercise, eats a lot of fruits and vegetables and snacks as well. The keto diet will be very efficient to Marisela in her reducing her weight. There will be a well laid out diet that she will have to follow in order for her to lose the ten pounds. One of the dietary behaviours will include her eating fewer snacks, fruits and vegetables and increasing intake in animal products such as poultry, meat and eggs that will increase her metabolic activities, consequently reducing her weight. Marisela will have to avoid at all costs eating at restaurants and eat healthy food prepared at home.

Henry’s case

Henry is a forty-five-year-old man who is fifty pounds overweight. His lifestyle includes him; he watches television a lot, barbeque with friends, and his occupation is desktop. The keto diet will be helpful with him fist getting rid of the standard American diet of processed foods, meat, fast foods and dairy products in fats. Henry will also have to start exercising and working out as his movements are on the low contributing to him being overweight. The keto diet and exercise will significantly help him to reduce substantial weight enabling him to start a family.
