Design Constraints for Senior Project – Water Purification

Today, households are becoming more aware of water security issues, and properties designed to use water efficiently are now highly regarded by home buyers and the tenants. Building a sustainable home is requiring one to adopt water management strategies that meet quality assurance, quality control, and reliability. This ensures that the water obtained from any source is pure and safe from any infection that may harm the people consuming it. Hence, developing a design constraint that promises quality and reliability of the water used by tenants or homeowners is critical. I have developed a design constraint that can meet the need of my clients. The design is carbon filtration with UV radiation method. I have also chosen photovoltaic for the water cooling/heating process.

The design is meant for using water from the sea, distilling it and purifying it for home use. Using carbon filtration by UV radiation method is n efficient and reliable way for water purification. The most efficient way to treat water bacteria is by using ultraviolet water purification. Ultraviolet (UV) rays prevent infectious diseases by destroying their genetic material (GM) by killing disease-causing microorganisms (Cassassuce, Arce & Zamudio, 2008). It decreases their reproductive capacity incredibly. It is extremely simple, effective, and environmentally safe. Ultraviolet light disinfects your water without adding a chemical substance or altering the taste or smell of the water. Besides, it requires low energy consumption and low maintenance cost. This makes it reliable and sustainable.

Also, using photovoltaic for cooling and heating process is cost-effective as it minimizes the amount of electricity needed for the cooling and heating process. Here, the light will be converted into electricity by the use of semiconducting materials exhibiting photovoltaic effect (Byrne, Fournaison, Delahaye, Ouméziane, Serres, Loulergue & Guéguen, 2015). The process is quality and reliable since it is free from infection and cost-effective.

Conclusively, water purification is incredibly important. However, more important is choosing methods that meet quality assurance, control, and reliability. This will ensure that the method chosen poses no health risks to water users.
