The history of psychology
Wilhelm Wundt first opened psychology in an institute in an experiment at the university of Lopez. (“History of Psychology”, 2016)These were the first laboratory that dedicated psychology, and its opening is thought to be the beginning of modern psychology. Wundt was vital as he separated psychology from philosophy through analyzing the working to a more structured way with the emphasis being on the measurement control (“History of Psychology”, 2016). This laboratory focuses on those serious interacts in psychology as all the subsequent psychologies were modeled some years before the Wundt model. Wundt background is physiology that reflects in the topics that concern the institute, such as the study of reaction times and the sensory processes and attention. For example, of the participants being exposed to the stimulus and asked to report on their sensations.
Wundt aim was to focus on the record of thoughts and analyses them into their constituent’s elements .this is in the same way as to that of the chemist on how they analyze the chemical compounds to understand the underlying structure(“History of Psychology”, 2016). This school is founded and known as voluntarism through a process of organizing minds. In the academic career, Wundt trains and graduate students of which some were psychologists. This becomes a great significance to him that helps him develop and promote his student to a system of structuralism, which is the analysis of the essential elements that constitute the mind(“History of Psychology”, 2016). Trough, the structure of the brain, makes Wundt to believe in reductionism. Trough this, and he thought that consciousness could be Brocken down to essential elements without sacrificing any of the properties as a whole.
The mental consciousness state could be scientifically be studied using introspection. This was not a casual affair and was a highly practiced form of self-examination(Weidman, 2016). He then trains psychology students to make the observation that would be based on the interpretation and use the results to develop a theory of conscious thought. This prepares the assistant to be given a stimulus such as the ticking metronome and would reflect on the experience(Weidman, 2016) .This would help them reflect what the stimulus made them feel and think. The same stimulus was given to each person in the physical surroundings and instruction.
Wundt method of interception did not remain a fundamental tool of psychological experimentation. It thus gave him a significant contribution to show that psychology can be a valid experiment of science. (Weidman, 2016)Wundt contributes to the development of psychology is to do his research in a careful, controlled condition as the experimental methods .This encourages other researchers such as the behavior list to follow the same innovative approach and be more scientific(Weidman, 2016). In today’s scientists, they argue that interception is nor an experimental as well as the methods that it uses. Skinner, a psychologist, claims that the result of interception is subjective, and that cannot be verified because of the observable behavior that cannot be objectively measured. These make Wundt concentrate on threat areas of the mental functioning that are thought, images, and feelings to which some are cognitive factors of today(Weidman, 2016). This thus means that the study of perceptual processes can be traced back and Wundt work stimulated interest in cognitive psychology.
Based on won’t work and the influence of those that follow him, he is regarded as the founder of the experimental psychology, thus securing his place in the history of psychology. These make him believe in himself and make other methods and approach to be necessary if all the aspects of psychology were investigated.
Importance of studying psychology
The history is quite a tedious and useless task. Through this, you have to understand the importance of the study of history as a subject. It was thus essential to study psychology as one may learn the past human behavior that is relevant to the intellectual growth and the development of an individual. Reviewing past events gives a good understanding of the world came to be, and also including all people and nature. History enhances people to learn about the causes of the events as people can learn how to deal with conflicts among nations and individuals. Also, studying the history of environmental changes can enhance a healthier lifestyle among humanity. Though the unpredictable behavior of the humans, it gives a better understanding through the study of history and can provide valuable insights to the future generations
Developmental psychology of the education of the early stages of child development is more useful in the understanding of the later stages. Psychology also helps to develop the history of science, which suggests that the social and cultural forces develop models of science in various stages. The work develops a paradigm a limited period that replaces the cultural needs, and the model cannot accommodate the scientific finding. The scientific progress is cyclic progress, which, when abnormally arises, cannot be explained in the paradigm and thus generates crises that leave in a room for a new model. These make the latest model to be accepted in the scientific revolution .some philosopher Karl popper makes a theory of relatable that invests chaos in the order of psychology. He says that for the approach to be scientific, it makes some risky predictions that may run a risk of being incorrect, and the history becomes aware of the vicious cycle.
Through studying history can help avoid the repetition of mistakes and also help tell-all about the myth .this would help study and understand on the discipline of the newer ways that help assume the underlying of the contemporary psychological ideas and theories. The knowledge is beneficial in providing with perspectives .this helps in providing solutions to some of the scholars of a long time ago. The most important of why we study history is to help understand o the basis of the present diversity. These enable you to understand the purpose of cross-cultural psychology, the theoretical orientation, and the methodologies. The study also helps identify the underlying reasons for indigenous psychology to assist in economic and social development.
The influence of psychology on schools
The history of schools on psychology represents the timeline of some of the essential psychologist’s .the approaches that psychologists have used to access the interest changes dramatically over histor(Weidman, 2016)y. This field speculates on the behavior toward an objective, and the scientific method as the technology available studies on human behavior has improved.
Wundt is tempted to understand the nature of consciousness on the school of functioning that aims at the understanding of why animals and human beings have developed the particular psychological aspects that are currently posses. For them, the thinking was relevant only to one’s behavior as psychology is put to the textbook. These influences the theory of natural selection, which proposes the physical characteristics of humans and animals evolving because they were useful and functional(Weidman, 2016). The functionalist believes that Darwin theory also applied on the psychological symptoms .this is because as just as the animals develop muscles that allow them to run fast, the human brain is so functional and that it must have adapted on the particular function in human experience.
Although the functionalist no longer exists as a school of psychology, its basic principles absorbed into psychology and thus continue to influence in many years(Weidman, 2016). The work of the functionalist has developed into a field of evolutional psychology. Evolutionally, psychology accepts the underlying functional assumption .human psychology systems that include memory, emotion, and personality serves as the critical adaptive functions .evolutionary psychologist understands the theory many different behaviors that include the romantic attraction, stereotypes and the prejudice that causes the psychological disorder. The essential component of the evolutional ideas is fitness. These refer to the extent of having a given characteristic that helps an individual organism to survive and reproduce at a higher rate than members of the same species.
The schools of psychology emerged as a science separate from biology and philosophy and debate on how to describe and explain the human mind, and the behavior begins(Weidman, 2016). The first school of thought was structuralism that was advocated in the lab. In the past, psychologists often identified themselves exclusively unlike today where it is elective on the outlook of technology. Structuralism is regarded as the first school of thought in psychology and, through perspective, focuses on breaking down mental processes into the necessary components. Gestalt psychology is again based on the idea of the experience things as a whole unified whole.
Behaviorists became a dominant school of thought .behaviorist suggest that all behavior can be explained by the environmental causes rather than the internal forces (Weidman, 2016)s. The behavioral school of psychology had a significant influence on the course of psychology to where most ideas and techniques emerge from this school of thought and still are widely used today(Weidman, 2016). Behavioral training, token economies aversion therapy, and some other methods are commonly used in the psychotherapy and behavioral modification programmers. The psychoanalytic is also a school of thought that emphasizes the influence of the unconscious mind on behavio(Weidman, 2016)r. Again there is humanistic psychology also develops as a response to psychoanalysis and behaviorism. These focus on individual free will, personal growth, and the concept of self-acceptance. The new schools were centered on abnormal human behavior. Thus the social psychology differed considerably in the helping of people achieve and fulfill their potential.

Behaviorism dates back to the late 19th century and comes in the era when natural science is at the forefront of scientific discovery(Still, 1987). The theory explains learning like a condition the environment that supplies either positive or negative consequences to any behavior. Behaviorism also postulates that learning is only complete when it can be seen as a change in practice(Still, 1987). Behaviorism postulates learning as starting with a blank page, and some psychologist argues that the theory is incomplete because it does not explain how to overcome these failures. The cogitative approach is often tied to behaviorism practice only that they are polar opposite. The cognitive theory explains learning as based on understanding(Still, 1987). Therefore, the mind receives new ideas, and it actively processes the information to arrive at an agreement that relies on incorporating before the knowledge and assumptions. These thus put thinking about the forefront of the learning process to where it becomes evident of new understanding.
Cognitive relies on the process to which the new information is weighed against prior knowledge. These thus brings into a play process of solving, analysis, and memory. Another theory is constructivism that sees learning as an active mental process (Still, 1987). Through this, people construct knowledge that is based on social and situational experiences. This theory allows people to accumulate information and test them through social interactions. Constructivism says that people build knowledge bases on the subjective considerations (Still, 1987).This makes the individuals make conclusions that the result of interactions with the environment and the constant testing that relies on the process information.
Humanistic theory reflects on the values of age and postulates that learning is tied to motivations potential and free will (Still, 1987). This makes the argument to be given the term self-actualization. These are because the whole person approach does not recognize a change in behavior and that it relies on people fulfilling their potentials, which is done through observation and authentic experiences. These theories have a significant influence on teaching, parenting, and so-called helping professionals that includes the clinical i psychologist therapist and councilors. Psychology students should realize that statistic courses are required for graduation. This is because statistics courses ate a significant part of virtually all psychology programmer. In conclusion, the history of psychology was founded Wundt to whom he proves to be a philosopher who, at the age, goes, and he invented the study of psychology. From history, it suggested that he made some teaching of psychology to help read the mind of other people. Through his interest in the education of psychology, he makes some students to whom they graduate and makes other people develop some interest in the learning. Psychology again develops some attention to the people to which makes great importance as people learn on the different things as the surroundings, creating a response, thus, regards it as a teaching subject in schools to where people study and graduate. Psychology is considered to have started from a laboratory. On arguing on psychology, it proves to be of high strength to the people that are willing to learn as per the different theories that describe the influence in schools. The theories of the history also describes the influence that the psychology has brought to the animals and the humans .this has promoted the best skills that human can engage in the creation of the peaceful coexistence due to the cognitive theory ,environmental theory and others.
