Similarities between Modern America and Ancient Rome

Modern America is considered as the modern-day Rome because of the great reminiscence with Ancient Rome. These significant similarities are seen in different aspects; political, religious, architecture, and artistic. The Ancient Roman became a successful government by the first century, and its success was due to military power, economic expansion, and political flexibility. This paper will explain both political and architectural similarities between modern America and the Ancient Roman.

The current United States and the Ancient Roman have the same branches of governments (Malamud, 2009). The Ancient Roma had three branches of government that are the executive, legislative, and judiciary. Likewise, the federal government of the United States is currently divided into three parts; the executive, legal, and judicial. This, therefore, shows that the structure of the government of the United States resembles that of the Ancient Roman.

American architecture has similarities with Roman architecture. The Supreme Court of the United States and the Jefferson Memorial have a high resemblance to the classical architecture that existed in Ancient Rome. The two buildings have a lot of resemblance to the Roman Pantheon. There are also similarities in the architecture of the structure of Washington Square Arch and several Roman Arches.

There are similarities between the current United States and ancient Rome in their constitution. The constitution of the Ancient Roman impacted that of the United States and how several things are done. The current ways of acquiring citizenship of the United States by birth and through the naturalization process were present in the Ancient Roman. The separation of powers in the Ancient Roman also influenced the separation of powers in the United States. This separation gave rise to the three branches of the government of the United States that resembles that of Ancient Rome.

The Roman government greatly impacted the government of the United States, which explains the similarities between the two governments. This is because the buildings in the current United States have a resemblance to that which existed in Ancient Rome. The government structures in both modern America and Ancient Rome also are the same. It is also the reason why some of the ways of getting citizenship are still used in Modern America.
