money is a significant determinant of whether individuals eat healthier food

After this specific research was finished, the team’s findings were that the choice of food that people each in their homesteads as a result of the amount of money they can afford to spend on food. This meant that people with a lot of money might spend it on buying food items from neighborhood stores while other people will travel and drive out of the neighborhood to the supermarket in order to access the foods of their choice. As a  result, the conclusion was that money is a significant determinant of whether individuals eat healthier food from neighborhood stores or not.

Theory

One theory that is applicable in this research is the rational choice theory. The rational choice theory suggests that individuals usually make a rational decision that is best on their own self-interest. As a result, if a person wants to eat healthy food, they will choose to do so or not.

This theory relates to the research in the form that people make a rational choice on where they want to spend their money at and on what food items. For example, if a person loves to eat healthy meals, then they will make a choice to buy them and spend their money on it. Also, the same way if a person has little money, but they desire to eat healthy, they will have to make a rational choice based on the money that they have. For example, if a person is expected to use 200 dollars on food in the next two months, they must make a choice to use this money efficiently. Hence if the healthy foods from the neighborhood stores are expensive, then this might negatively affect the individual’s money, so they have to drive to a different location that offers cheaper food in order to ensure that the 200 dollars they have last them the two months period.

research methods used in the research

the use of surveys was the primary research method that the team used to gather information about the case study. as explained in the research, the team employed different research where they surveyed on neighborhood stores analyzing the prices of this store and comparing them what the supermarkets also price for the same products.

Secondly, the team interviewed participants in order to collect information on the case. These interviews were being done in order to understand the purchasing behavior of individuals as well as understanding individual attitudes towards buying from supermarkets or neighborhood stores. By doing so, the information aided the team to come up with clear findings of the problem.

advantage of the survey as a research methodology

the first advantage of using surveys is that it offers researchers with convenient data gathering means. The researchers are able to survey different places on the same issue. As a result, they end up getting a lot of important information related to the problem and even learn new developments that they might not have been aware of. Secondly, through surveying interview respondents, the researchers are able to gain first-hand information from interviewees as the questions are designed to attain a certain objective related to the study. Although this is the case, the disadvantage of using this form of data gathering is that it could belong and ends up taking a lot of time to finish. Secondly, surveys could be very inflexible, and this limits the researcher’s ability to collect more information about the case.

additional information for the research

the issue of proper dieting is tied to many aspects of our lives. Hence the research team can consider other factors. For example, the lifestyle that an individual chooses to live could also be a reason why people make the choice of buying from neighborhood stores or not. For example, there are individuals who do not like walking outside, and a good example will be an introvert who works from home. As a result, such an individual will be more compelled to buy food from the neighborhood store in order to save on time traveling to the supermarket. Hence in the end, regardless of how much money they make, the neighborhood store would be convenient for them.
