Terri A. Sewell is a congresswoman serving her fifth term representing Alabama’s 7th congressional district. Sewell is one of the very first women to represent Alabama in congress position. She is also the first black woman to serve in the Alabama congressional district. The congresswoman, Sewell brings to the table her more than 15 years of experience in securities and public finance attorney in the house ways and means committee where she serves as a vice-chair. In the committee, she sits in three subcommittees: the subcommittee on trade, health, worker and family support. Sewell has also held several leadership positions in her short term as a congresswoman. In the 112th congress, she served as the freshman class president. She was also appointed to serve as the Chief Whip Deputy by the democratic Whip James Clyburn. Sewell has outstanding views, policy choice and opinions on current issues.
Sewell is an activist with diverse views and opinions on health, economy and budget. She advocates for the creation of jobs, provision of resources and economic opportunities for her members of the districts. One of her policy choice on work development is her implementation on the result-driven tactic to addressing the unemployment challenge by holding an annual job fair and job readiness workshop all across her district as a way to help people realize their ability to develop. Currently, on the issue of covid-19, Sewell urges Alabama governor, Kay Ivey and her admin to extend unemployment remunerations for Alabamans affected by Covid-19. She also comments on provisions to protect workers and fuel the economy. She does not believe it’s wise to prioritize on spending whenever the case debt is reached.
