Qualities of a Good Relationship Partner
It is becoming increasingly frustrating nowadays to find two romantic partners with mutual feelings for each other. Partners come together because their love was blossoming during the earlier stages. However, with time, love might stop being mutual. This might be the case if the affection was based on material possessions that might have run out, or one partner was using the other to achieve something. After the objective has been reached, mutual affection begins to fade. However, there are qualities one should look at in their prospective partner before deciding to get into a relationship with them. Below are some of these qualities.
Trust
Trust is very basic in any endeavor, including a romantic relationship. The ability to believe what your prospective says or does enables one to be very comfortable around them. It is a good feeling realizing that someone trusts you wholly. The belief that they are harmless either towards their prospective partner or any other party establishes a very vital connection between the two. However, it is worth noting that trust should be a two-way thing. Either of the two prospective romantic partners should develop confidence for each other. Therefore, to settle down with the right romantic partner, ensure both of you trust each other at all times.
Respect for one’s beliefs and values
An excellent potential romantic partner should have respect for whatever beliefs, norms, practices, and general culture their prospective significant other upholds. This respect ensures the other party remains true to themselves; that they don’t fake their personality as a whole. Such a connection makes the prospective partner feel recognized and appreciated, too (making them strengthen their feelings of affection for their potential partners). For instance, if a partner is an atheist, pushing him to believe in the existence of God might make them feel uncomfortable. They might feel religiously undermined. Thus, getting into a long term relationship with such a guy might not last. However, such respect for the significant other’s beliefs and values should be mutual, a two-way thing, too.
Ability to make you a better person
Before deciding to settle down with a potential partner, one should look at what the other party adds to their lives. This means that they can see in what ways the possible significant other makes them a better person. This, too, should be a two-way thing. For instance, if an alcoholic is thinking of dating a prospective partner who consistently advises them to quit drugs, that is a good sign. Also, if one is thinking of settling down with a potential significant other who accepts their weaknesses or flaws while trying day in day out to improve them, then it is advisable to give the thought (of settling down with them) a shot.
Conclusively, there are essential qualities or traits one should look for in their potential significant other, before deciding to settle down with them. Such attributes include, but not limited to, trust, a sense of respect for one’s beliefs and values, and the amount the prospective partner adds to you in an attempt to make you a better person. Therefore, anyone willing to date should look for such traits in their potential partner before making the decision.
