Introduction

Robert Bone in his book, “The Regional Geography of Canada,” introduced the different six regional existing in Canada which includes Ontario, Atlantic Canada, Western Canada, British Colombia, The Territorial North and Quebec. Generally, he addresses the historical, population and the exquisite location of each region which introduces the dynamic nature of each region. Indeed, the features not only generate a mindset in identifying the six regions but also allows an individual explore further the regions’ physical, cultural, social and economic features every region has specifically (Bone, Robert M, 2018). This essay tends to appreciate the unique diversity of the regional geography of Canada by providing a summary of the key attributes of one region; Atlantic Canada.

The Dynamic Nature and Historical Features of Atlantic Canada

Atlantic Canada sometimes known as Atlantic Provinces according to Robert Bone, a professor in the Saskatchewan University, comprises of four provinces occupying Atlantic Coast. The four namely Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador provinces together consist of 2.333 million people as per 2016.

Atlantic Canada is well known for its tasty fresh seafood which is mainly served in chippies. It covers a total of 500,531kilometer Square, and as of 2011, the region GDP was $121.888 billion. On the other hand, in 1949, Joey Smallwood came up with the word, “Atlantic Canada” once Newfoundland became part of Canada as it included itself in the Maritime Provinces which shared the same cultural similarities with Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

In the 19^th Century, the Maritime Provinces; Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, joined Dominion of Canada Confederation in 1867 with Prince Edward Island following in 1873. Incidences such as the Metropolitical agendas on population highlights a list of community existing in Atlantic Canada which include Halifax in Nova Scotia with a population of 403,390, St John’s in the Newfoundland and Labrador having 205,955 persons and Saint John from New Brunswick having 126,202 individuals. Besides, other communities are existing in the different provinces, which include Fredericton, Cape Breton, Charlottetown, Truro, New Glasgow and Corner Brook, among others.

Correspondingly, the Maritime is believed to have originated from the French in 1604 that was the Acadia and consisted of Modern Day Atlantic Empire. The American Resolution that took place 1775-1783 through their rule despite the War of Spanish Succession facilitated immigration during the war. In the long run, loggers became part of the region who later turned to be shipbuilders and fishermen (Banks, 2020). As a result, the territories via British ColonizersColonizers were divided into the four provinces named above. By 19th Century, every province had a high self-governing federation which resulted to growth and development in the different areas.

The Physical Features in Atlantic Canada

Several physical features are existing in Atlantic Canada, which include plains, mountains and highlands, and as a result of the Atlantic Ocean, the regional climate varies massively. Besides, with the diversity of the existing physical features, forests and fisheries conquer the regions, not forgetting how ecozone exceeds the various wooden uplands and fertile land.

Atlantic Canada’s geography consists of small islands groups who live on the various peninsulas end found in the east coast next to Quebec region which introduces the crude crescent-shaped Gulf of St. Lawrence. The pine forests, the hills and the rocky cliffs make the region iconic not forgetting how the water surrounding the coastal area makes it cold, wet and foggy during the winter season. Despite the scarcity in the population of the four different provinces existing in Atlantic Canada, the groups have tried their level best to ensure they sustain the physical features in their best capacity.

Atlantic Canada Social Features

In the four provinces, there are several social features which add to its growth and development. They include primary, secondary and higher learning institutions, hospital, worshipping areas among other premises. Regional support of higher learning institution, for instance, has facilitated development in Atlantic Canada. Learning has necessitated the development of human capital. Public Policies incorporated in the different spheres have also impact to the social economy in provinces such as Nova Scotia in Canada.

Economic development programs from the various institutions have further explained the position of social life in Atlantic Canada. There are various funding coming from CED projects which not only impact on the rural and urban development but also the capacity building of the communities available. Regional planning, for instance of the different amenities, has encouraged togetherness as people from the four provinces come together with one aim, socialization and making ends meet.

Cultural Aspects in Atlantic Canada

Historically, the four provinces in Atlantic Canada consist of a distinct mixture of people who could be from British, France, Scotland and Gaelic. Therefore, they form a unique tradition which has humour, social, economic and political aspects. The uses of art in their custom not only indicate the bravery they possess in the application of literally techniques but also a representation of who the Canadians are particularly.

Plenty of water channels in the region represent the economic way of life for Atlantic Canadians. They include tourism, transportation and shipping and fishing industry. The culture name in Canada is known as Canadian and that it brings in national identity and ethnicity via the federal system that intertwines biculturalism and binationalism (Morton, 2017). Food consumption being part of everyday life introduces the various practices existing during ceremonial occasions. In such incidences, the complexity, the presentation and the consumption characteristics are considered.

The rhetorical agendas in cultural in Atlantic Canada is linked to the classes and castles present and even as a debate which emphasizes unity, mutual respect and diversity, class is connected to political power. On the other hand, there is the division of labour based on gender through which cultural systems enforces participation. The system presented also affirms to the relative status men and women uphold which are linked to equal standing. The domestic unit Atlantic Canada is the nuclear family made of parents and their children.

In conclusion, the regional geography of Canada consists of six different spheres Atlantic Canada included. It turns out to be one of the most interesting regions in Canada an individual would visit. This is because of the unique physical, cultural, historical and social aspects that have impacted its growth and development.
