A CHART SHOWING PERCENTAGE OF WOMEN WHO USE ALCOHOL ACROSS FIFTEEN (15) YEARS.
I obtained the following data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and it includes the percentage of women drinking alcohol from the year 2002 to 2017, which was on the increase. An excel spreadsheet to create this visual representation of the data. It’s interesting to see alcohol intake rising among women, although sensitization and educating about the dangers of alcohol abuse has been on the rise.
The chart shows increased alcohol consumption among women between the years 2002 and 2017. Several reasons might have caused the trend. The main reasons include stress due to increased activities and responsibilities among women. Changing social norms are the primary factor associated with this increased drinking menace in the United States. I find it interesting that the increase in alcohol intake among women is attributable to the feminist agenda. I mean, “what a man can do a woman can do better,” can it also apply to this situation? Is the path to equality among the different genders leading to such competition? Where are the lines drawn? Is there such a thing as toxic feminism? Could women empowerment be losing its meaning considering, that nations spend billions of dollars every year to curb this gender inequality gap? These are some interesting questions, and we have to ponder hard to come up with answers.
