A film based on a true story of a Nigerian pathologist, Dr. Bennet Omalu

I read the article after watching the movie. Concussion is an exciting drama film that looks into the contentious subject of concussions in the field of professional football. The film is based on a true story of a Nigerian pathologist, Dr. Bennet Omalu, who single-handedly challenges the powerful, professional of American football. He discovered that with or without helmets, the sport was giving the player’s brain damage. However, the film demonstrates football as a great sport and shows how passionately Bennet Omalu likes America.

However, the article discusses that the doctor’s claim that football was giving the players brain damage have been challenged to be unsatisfying and shallow. Besides, the article explains that Dr. Bennet Omalu was not the first one to discover the CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) among American football players. The movie dramatizes Dr. Bennet Omalu’s research and discovery of the CTE medical condition. The main events of the life and character of Dr. Omalu, as portrayed in the movie, are reasonably accurate. However, the article changed my perspective on Dr. Omalu’s research, as demonstrated by the film.

The actual advantage of this movie is how it highlights the many strategies used by the NFL to prevent public-health innervations. For example, throughout the film, several attempts defaming the dissenters can be seen, for example, in the scene where Dr. Maroon interrogates Omalu’s expertise and credibility when they meet. Also, Dr. Omalu is denied the chance to present at the NFL concussion summit by the NFL officials.  Besides, the concussion summit can be viewed as a mechanism of distraction to give individuals the illusion that the NFL is seriously looking into the issue of traumatic brain damage.  Also, the doctors situated within football and other sports might be compromised as well as have specific conflicting pressures when it comes to their ethical standards.

Similarly, the movie shows how the NFL dismisses the research’s quality, typically as a discovery of scientific uncertainty. This is done by questioning the causation, highlighting various currently non-tested variables as well as suggesting that there is not sufficient evidence on the research’s findings. The film, therefore, demonstrates that it is the responsibility of the United States’ public and sporting authorities to keep the athletes healthy even after retiring from football.  However, Dr. Omalu explains his dismay concerning the social reaction that his research and discovery received.

The film provides excellent insights into the inceptions of the concussion discussions within the United States’ football, principally around the findings of the CTE condition in the deceased athletes’ brains.  Thus it offers a solid foundation of the therapeutic knowledge around CTE and concussion. It also demonstrates how concussion is somehow a social challenge. Further, the film demonstrates the cultural backlash in the United States as well as the several strategies that the NFL uses to prevent public-health interventions. The movie thus provides an unquestionably excellent introduction to concussion’s social-media issue for both scholars and the public.

This movie is fascinating and engaging. The movie’s involuntary discretion works to its advantage; its non-ratcheting drama made the narrative feel more honest and accurate. The real message in the film is how Dr. Omalu’s belief in the goodness of individual institutions were criticized as well as how he denied becoming cynic after everything. Towards the end of the movie, the Doctor is referred to as an American hero. This phrase’s truth, as well as the contradictions which trail in its wake, are strongly felt.
