A substantial decline in the cases of bacterial meningitis
A substantial decline in the cases of bacterial meningitis in the US was recorded between1986 to 2003, and this was due to the implementation of the HIB vaccine in 1987, at a rate exceeding the rate of decline that occurred between 1986 to 1995. Besides, the median age of the incidence is particularly increased in the same period from 1986 to 1995, especially after targeting the children with the HIBvaccine rather than older individuals. The reason behind thissubstantial decrease was due to the implementation of theHIB vaccine, which was protecting individuals against B H. Influenzadisease. There was no change in the incidence recorded, on the other hand, regarding other bacteria, for example, S.pneumoniae, which caused meningitis until the introduction of the PCV vaccine in 2000, which after that led a significant decline of Influenzacases from 2000 to 2003.
