Academic research
By definition, research entails the investigation of a particular subject to discover facts, develop an action plan, or revise a theory on facts discovered. A research article is systematic in structure and contains specified steps and sequence with is well –defined. Furthermore, it is guided by logic reasoning and the process of deduction and induction. This means that one or more aspects represent real situations (Library Research Tutorials, n.d.). Data provided is from external research results. Secondly, research is usually a continuation of previous research. Lastly, the investigator must also be able to distribute the work in an open format, which ensures that the study must be made easy to use.
On the other hand, it is essential to know what scholarly works are and what they contain. Some key aspects allow one to tell academic research. To start, the author(s) name are normally included. This is because the work is a professional; hence the name of the authors must be represented. Furthermore, the language that is used is specialized or technical. Scholarly work mostly has a title. This shows that they are written for specific people or specified fields (Library Research Tutorials, n.d.). The numbers of pages that are contained in scholarly works are more than five. Bibliographies are a must when it comes to this type of works.
Identifying a peer-review article and differentiating from scholarly articles is essential. Identifying peer-review articles requires one to use the database to search peer-reviews journals and articles. There is a common database like Ulrichsweb.com, where peer-reviews are mostly found. Another way is to examine a publication and see whether it is a peer-review or not (Library Research Tutorials, n.d.).
When experts write it, a publication is considered scholarly for experts. The journal is focused on academics as it reports on original research (experimentation), methods of study, or theory. In general, scholarly publications concentrate on professional or academic researchers and provide comprehensive reviews based on a particular area or field of study.
The papers are presented before publication and are rigorously reviewed by peers of the author (experts in the same topic) and accepted by him (experts)
