According to readings from Harvard business review, people lose motivation for doing work because most of the workers are not able to explore, experiments as well as learning. After all, the organization is conducted in a way that prevents employees from exercising those activities. For instance, in the case of Tom, he was a website developer, and he was hired by organization immediately after college, he was told that there was an opportunity for learning and growing; therefore, he had high expectations of gaining more knowledge. However, it did not happen because the supervisor never allowed him to experiments on what he knew he could do better, his supervisor was afraid of learning new things because he thought the test would not go as per the plan of the organization, hence denying tom an excellent opportunity for learning. Also, people lose motivation as a result of having high expectations when doing something where if the plans fail, one feel discouraged to the point of not trying something new in the future. At first, Tom did not feel discouraged, but as the time was moving due to more pressure of wanting to meet several websites metrics, he was unable to work, and his work turned to be boring, and at the end, he stopped all the ideas he had and the work he was doing

 

According to the Harvard Business Review reading, explain how managers can utilize three listed strategies to spark motivation in employees.

First: Self –expression

Managers have the responsibility of helping their employees to become the best selves without necessarily changing their frames jobs. For instance, in a case where employees are given a chance to write down as well as sharing stories about their best moments makes employees to feel more comfortable as well as being able to feel much valued in the workplace under this situation employees are not likely to quit from their work stations.

Second, experimentation

Managers are supposed to create a safe zone for an experiment that will include play and the supporting social bonding among themselves. The experimental territory will create intrinsic motivation to the employees, and it will give them more power .managers also has the role of encouraging employees to think of new methods as well as trying them and later give back the feedback on how the surrounding gave feedback to their ideas.
