Accuracy and Completeness of Personal Information
Personal information is factual or subjective information, recorded or not, about an individual (PrivacySense.net, 2016). Accuracy in personal information means that the information collected is correct, relevant, and accurately represents what it should. Completeness in personal details the process of ensuring no gaps are in the information from. It is vital to make sure that personal information is complete and accurate, for it is a requirement by law to ensure that a decision that is to be made by an organization concerning an individual is made through accurate, complete data (2019). It is, therefore, necessary to employ methods that ensure that personal information is complete and accurate.
Methods that can be employed to make sure that personal information is accurate and complete are; halting submission of forms if not all information has been filled in. A Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI/electronic) method that ensures the mandatory fields are filled in thus ensuring completeness is achieved (Robinson, 2017). To obtain accurate data is somewhat hard but can still be attained by the use of document verification, GPS, and timestamps for event recording. Personal information managers (PIM) are software that helps in keeping track and management of information that is for daily use, can also be used to ensure that personal data is complete and accurate daily (Williams & Sawyer, 2015).
Personal information that is complete and accurate may be used to harm an individual if it falls into the wrong hands. It is essential to ensure that personal data is only available to authorized individuals to avoid any harm or danger befalling on individuals. Personal identity can be protected and censored by using encryption software that ensures data is safe and cannot be accessed by anyone without authorization (2020). Using private WIFI is recommended than public WIFI, for it is easy to be hacked on a public WIFI than private since they monitor who has access (2020). It is crucial to protect personal information, for they may make an individual vulnerable to identity theft; hence it should always be offered.
Personal information protection and censorship have their advantages and disadvantages. The benefits of personal information protection and restriction include the prohibition of identity theft. An additional layer is set up to avoid identity theft, making sure personal information is safe and is not used maliciously to commit crimes or scam the individual (Miller, 2019). Censorship helps in making sure personal information is not falsified by another individual. If censorship and protection are not used, one can easily change someone’s information misrepresenting things about them. An example of the two advantages is how personal information cannot be used to withdraw money from a bank account by an online hacker or someone editing information for their gain (Miller, 2019). Disadvantages include restriction to control what the information is used for after submission since access to personal information is restricted and controlled (Miller, 2019). Freedom is constrained by censorship, for there is no access to personal information. An example of the two disadvantages is through the information that most governments censor, not allowing the public to now exact statistics or news based on the personal information collected(Miller, 2019). Governments also restrict the freedom of what they can see to avoid uproars.
