After my high school graduation
After my high school graduation, it took me quite some time to decide to pursue a degree in public safety administration. I had even to spend the first year of my undergraduate studies to gain satisfaction and steer my way towards my academic goals. Initially, several areas of study appealed to me, but I always wanted to be a lawyer. I was always bothered by small things from the trivial unfairness like my sister undeservedly being handed the most significant piece of cake to the atrocities going on in the world, and this always gave me the urge to stand up against this acts of injustice and inequality. It took me a lot of time of indecision before actually deciding to settle for my current career path. The introductory classes, no doubt, played a significant role in shaping my perspective. The dynamic nature and the diversity of various careers were taught in these classes, and needless to say, they came in handy. They widened my perspective on multiple career paths and helped me understand myself better. Throughout my study, I have leant that although a single class can have a life-changing significance, it is the collective learning process that can completely transform one.
Additionally, I have learned through the various units I undertake under my undergraduate degree that my passion stretches to multiple subjects in society. Humanity, for one, is exciting and concerned about the wellbeing of the community and has helped to serve as a directive and a map for my career path. I have, therefore, realized that public safety administration was a befitting career path.
Through my undergraduate studies, I have been able to develop my current interest in ensuring public safety and its criticality to those around me. I have come to realize that the most vulnerable individuals, the elderly and children, are not guaranteed protection. Because of these, appropriate measures have to be taken to ensure their safety both by the public and the relevant correspondents. Whether it is a home, office, or on the road, I have learned that predisposing factors and dangers in various homes could culminate. Such occurrences can, however, be prevented from happening should the accurate measurements be taken and maintained.
My undergraduate travels and attachment have not only helped consolidate what I have learned and been taught in class but have also molded and led to tremendous personal growth as a student and as a public safety administrator. These experiences on the ground served as an invaluable contribution to my evolving understanding of safety and other areas, both motivated by my innate curiosity in ways not possible within the walls of a classroom. Through these outdoor programs in Florida, I was able to interact with the locals. What particularly interested me is the stories of the locals about rampant shooting and mugging, and I was able to learn that safety is not granted but by the responsible bodies standing to voice and against these cases. Through the help of my colleagues and the stakeholders, we were able to establish surveillance and monitoring programs that were put in place to combat such incidences.
Importantly, my time in the campus has helped shape my ability to balance between the demanding schedule of undergraduate studies, participating in rigorous debates, conducting in-depth research as well as interacting with diverse and robust ideological viewpoints. These were at first challenging but have proved to be more enriching. Through this, I have been able to broaden my perspective and beliefs as well as solidifying my decision to pursue a career in public safety. They have also equipped me with the competency, passion, initiative, and the commitment necessary to make it in this field.
In conclusion, I have come to learn to appreciate that dedication and hard work are inherent in achieving professional skills in this field. My aspiration as a professional is providing public safety by initiating and administrating public projects that and building as well as reinforcing partnerships in public safety and administration. The skills learned in this undergraduate program will make me better at communication, therefore, strengthening my skills and making me suitable for this career choice.
