Analyzing Culture
Culture is associated with customs, laws, beliefs, practices, norms, habits, and morals obtained by individuals in a specific society. According to the statement, culture is a unique aspect that belongs to a group of people since it represents a set of customs, traditions, skills, and knowledge. Besides, culture is socially conveyed from one generation to the other, thus it is a major determinant of human behavior. Similarly, this aspect refers to various parts of social life, such as value systems, lifestyle, techniques, and manners exhibited by people. A good understanding of this aspect is understood from the article of Fox News, where commenters exhibited the values, such as empathy, health, and leadership, which indicated their real culture.
Using the article in the Fox News called “Coronavirus Prompts Saudi Arabia to Limit Travel to Holy Sites – Months Ahead of Hajj Pilgrimage,” the people’s comments have revealed values that tend to follow a common pattern. First, most comments are primarily attached to the value of sympathy. The major reason that led to the exhibition of the value is the outbreak of coronavirus, which has led to travel restrictions to the Hajj pilgrimage. Most commenters have sympathizedwith the victims of coronavirus sincethe people have interwoven in their life issues and problems(62). Besides, coronavirus has made most of them sympathetic to an extent they imagine that they are the major victims since they have subconsciously taken the problem and are looking for someone who can fix it.
Additionally, there is empathy in most comments ofthose people who are related. From the article, I noted that the typical pattern in most comments had a strong love among people who are connected by some aspects, such as similar society and religion. For instance, most Muslims support themselves by condemning the act of limiting travel to Hajj pilgrimage, while the Christians are praising the regulation since they claim it is for the benefit of the whole country due to the spread of coronavirus.. Furthermore, from the comments, I formulated that health is a value, which is unchallenged since many people showed the interest of havinggood lifestyles, without any objections. This statement is linked to the main subject matter where coronavirus has dominated the opinions of most commenters. Manypeople are agreeing that there is a necessity to put all efforts into searching for a permanent solution so that the deadly virus can be curbed. Others welcome the issue without being taken for granted. Generally, commenters are not taking for granted the value of good health, which indicated that self-image and self-esteem are aspects manifested best when people take care of their bodies. Also, from the comments, happiness is another unchallenged value. The article has forced most commenters to show that all they want on this earth is a happy life. Particularly, many comments pointed out that diseases snatch away pleasure, and the only concern of the public is to have a solution to the virus so that happiness can be restored.
Moreover, leadership is the value that is openly challenged. Most commenters think that leaders are the major cause of existing problems. In different societies, during campaigns, aspirants usually promise to enhance better lives through investing in the healthcare sector. However, as a health menace, coronavirus made the individualshave open debates where everybody is pointing fingers at their leaders for being ineffective in handling such a critical matter as promised(Fox News, 2020).Generally, the value of leadership is openly debated, where those in power are blamed for not putting in efforts to help their respective citizens. Also, religious values are openly debated since most comments indicated that both Muslims and Christians are defending themselves for superiority.
Finally, real culture is a concept that describes the values, which were sociologically analyzed from the comments of the article in Fox News. This statement implies that people have adopted the norms and values, which are strongly encouraged by their respective cultures (63). Most of the commenters have adjusted to particular value systems, which are acting as guiding principles to their exhibited behaviors.Besides, whether the values are bad or good, if these people feel comfortable with them, they openly exhibit. The claim is based on the view that the commenters grew up in various societies and have adopted their respective values. Using an example of religion, due to coronavirus, Saudi Arabia has decided to limit the number of people from visiting the Hajj pilgrimage (Fox News 2020). This action has led to a serious debate among the commenters who are Muslims and Christians, whereby both are viewing their religious values better than the other. The situation usually happens in the society where people from other religions cannot mingle together due to their differences. According to the sociological analysis, the analyzed values signal real culture since commenters have adopted the behaviors, norms, and values of their respective societies.
In conclusion, people’s cultures are widely used as a framework forunderstanding their behaviors. The claim is reinforced by the article in Fox News, whereby the commenters exhibited various values, such as sympathy and empathy. Also, values relating to health and happiness are not challenged since their importance is openly known. However, leadership and religious values are publicly debated. Generally, from the analysis of these values, the real cultures of the commenters are exhibited.
