Application of positive psychology in the workplace entails how the jobs and job placements affect employee happiness in one way or the other. Martin Seligman’s well-being theory, known as PERMA-theory. It helps to understand the elements that facilitate a state of joy and fulfillment in people when applied in a workplace. The PERMA-theory reflects an acronym that stands for the factors that promote positive psychology in the workplace. The acronym stands for (P) Positive Emotions, (E) Engagement, (R) Relationships, (M) Meaning and the Purpose, and (A) Accomplishments.

  1. Positive Emotions

Positive emotions in the workplace entail the perspective of focusing on positive things. According to Gilbert & Kelloway (2014), the workplace needs to be a positive place rather than a negative place. Moreover, people thrive when they are happier, brighter moods help to set higher goals, and as a result, people experience less stress and better team cooperation and problem-solving. Positive psychology virtues and the character strength help to identify common factors that contribute to prevention and recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The happiness of a person is achieved after winning social support in different aspects of life. Kinds of supports that individuals need to be happy include; emotional support it helps one to nurture personality as well as keep moving; it involves love, care, trust, affection, and encouragement. Tangible support entails people who can give financial assistance. Appraisal support includes people who give constructive and honest feedback. The informational support provides one with professional help. Finally, the companionship support consists of the activity friends who make a person feel socially accepted. Different people offer various support in the daily life of a person. The people from the social support group which needs to be appreciated and valued. The social group support makes the individual happier as well as a well- rounded person.
