Applying the Principles of Learning to Problem Solving

The principles of learning provide insights into how people can learn effectively. However, it is easy to apply the principles of learning in solving problems that affect society. Before learning principles are applied in problem-solving, it is crucial for people to on how they can use them (Chance, 2014). This will make it easy for them to know how they can analyze social problems and get solutions for them in an effective manner.
The rampant social problem in my community is drug abuse. A considerable number of people, especially youths, have developed the lousy Behavior of abusing drugs such as alcohol and tobacco in large quantities. Others have gone to the extent of abusing illegal drugs such as bhang and cocaine, and this has contributed to the ever-increasing cases of crime in society. According to Chance, (2014), learning is a biological process and thus a need to educate the members of the society on how to stop drug abuse. The principle that I will apply to teach the community is the principle of feedback. According to this principle, learners need to know the performance feedback of their learning (Chance, 2014). The principle also postulates that learning is as a result of positive reinforcement. I will thus inform the members that through behavior modification, the social problem can be solved (Chance, 2014). I will tell the society that drug abuse slows down development and is also associated with criminal activities. Parents will, therefore, have the responsibility to help reinforce good Behavior to their children and get feedback on their progress
The learning process takes place effectively if there is a form of reinforcement. In this case, I have to offer support to those who are abusing drugs so that they can stop them. I will use positive reinforcement, such as securing jobs for them and booking therapy appointments for them (Chance, 2014). Through this, I will motivate people to develop a positive behavior which is a solution to the social problem affecting society.
