Applying the strategy‐structure‐performance paradigm to the supply chain environment

Discussion 2

Essentially, the paradigm of strategic-structure-performance (SSP) foretells the strategies of an organization that have been created considering external environmental elements that drive organizational structure process and development (Defee & Stank, 2005). In my opinion, the SSP paradigm shall permit a firm to perform its levels of desires. Such firms ought to align with the structure and strategy needed to achieve as compared to the competitors, which are lacking a similar level of strategic fits excellently. Extension of SSP into the context of the supply chain is a suggestion that competition has been established with supply chain levels as compared to the standards of the company. The unit shift as of the analysis to the supply chain, as shown in the attention which has been directed to the supply chain management, indicates that the supply chain field is endowed with the multiple disciplines with talented scholars. SSP paradigm elements are anchored in the congruency need seen between the company’s structure and strategy. Strategy fit is taken the baseline need in support of the organizational performance.

SSP paradigms still hold in today’s marketplace.  The application of the SSP in the supply chain management assists many firms to have their services aligned to various standards which are allowed in the market.  The paradigms offer a theoretical basis in which structural elements should be aligned in fostering improvements in an organization. Also, the SSP paradigms assist in recognizing major strategic and structural features associated with the SCM, which should be manipulated in attaining marketing capacity and enhance the performance (Defee & Stank, 2005). The significance of aligning strategies of the company, such as centralization decision making, standardization, communication, integration, integration of compensation, among others, makes the operations of the firm to be more comfortable.
