Architecture
In my opinion, architecture is both the process as well as the product of designing, planning and constructing structures or buildings. It is the art of science that focuses on the design and construction of buildings. Architecture is a calling, a passion, a business, a vocation as well as a science. Architecture is an artful science and social art. It is the highest quality of design. Architecture is what guarantees the durability and integrity or a structure and ensures that the structure serves its purpose, and it is both visually and aesthetically pleasing. All buildings including flats, supermarkets, homes, offices, malls, school, hospitals and many more are products of architecture, and it is an architecture that ensures each building serves its purpose either as a home, a school or even a supermarket.
Architecture is what ensures that people live in a favourable environment that serves all their needs effectively and efficiently. Architecture has the capacity to affect the outcomes of anything materially. This means that it could change the way people relate to each other, it could improve health, it could increase business productivity, it has the capacity to decrease crime, and it has the capacity to support neighbourhoods and communities. Architecture has the ability to delight and inspire hence enhancing daily activities.
The designs by architects are mainly driven by the fully creative manipulation of shadow, mass, materials, space, texture, program, light, volume as well as realistic elements that include technology, cost and construction to achieve an end product that is often artistic, aesthetic and functional. Generally, architecture has no specific definition however it can widely be defined as the design of the overall built environment starting from the macro-level of landscape architecture, town planning as well as urban design to the micro level of construction furniture and details.
