Assessment for Health Promotion
Maria has a probable health condition. She is 40 years old, and she has gained only 14 kgs since high school. She loves cooking, and her family also loves eating food. She attends classes 15 hours a week, and she is required to be present at the laboratory for 12 hours. Additional assessment data could be gathered in a bid to find the problem she is facing. Firstly, a mental assessment should be conducted on her to know if her mental health has been affected in any way by the daily activities. Asides from that, Maria’s skin could also be looked at, whereby the physician looks for moles, cuts, and even bruises. Her face and eyes could also be assessed to find out if they are normal and even. Notwithstanding, Maria’s neck and veins should also be evaluated to find out if they are distended and bulging. Her abdomen and stomach should also be looked at to find out if there are bulges and masses. Another additional assessment to be carried out on Maria is based on the legs to find out if there is any swelling. A muscle assessment should also be assessed whereby the caregivers check if the patient has an excellent muscle tone or not. An assessment of the joints and elbows should also be done to check for inflammation and swelling and if there are any deformities present.
In addition to that, different actual health risks have been noted. The first is that Maria is old and she spends more time working instead of resting. She spends 15 hours a week and 12 hours in the clinic. She even maintains the household herself. Instead, she should be resting more and not being too worked out. She should find someone to help her with the house chores and take care of the children as she works and studies. Asides from that, Maria sleeps for 5 hours a night. However, a normal human being sleeps from seven to 9 hours each night. It means that Maria is depriving herself of sleep, which makes her even unhealthier.
Health and wellness can be promoted to Maria in several ways. Firstly, Maria can be taught in different ways she can adapt to a healthy lifestyle. For instance, she can eat a balanced diet and even exercise frequently. Exercise and taking a balanced diet ensures that the patient does not acquire chronic diseases (Edington, Schultz, Pitts & Camilleri, 2015). It also improves the mental health of the patient. Her blood pressure is 148/90, and she needs to control it, and this can only be done by taking a balanced diet and exercising. She should also regularly visit a doctor. These visits help the doctor to guide and advise Maria on how to live healthily. The doctors must have her past medical history for them to make the right diagnosis, depending on the symptoms that she is exhibiting.
There is a specific diagnosis that Maria should follow. If she smokes, she can be advised not to smoke, and she can also take different medications to treat this condition (Ali & Katz, 2015). For instance, she can be given Thiazide diuretics. These drugs are at times referred to as the water pills, and they help the body in eliminating water and sodium by acting on the kidney, thus reducing the volume of the blood. Some thiazide diuretics that the patient may be administered to include chlorthalidone and Microzide. She can talk to the doctor if her blood pressure remains high even after taking these drugs. She can also be given Carisoprodol, which is a relaxant and could help reduce tiredness.
