                    ASSIGNMENT 3: CRITIQUE OF INTERVIEW

                        SECTION 1.

SECTION 1A: FOCUS ON SELF REFLECTION

Before the interview I had studied every possible question that could be asked out there. I had researched on every forwards and the backwords the company had influence on. It was practically there after all the research and all the waiting. The anxiety was there may be in a few minutes and seconds. I did all I could to get myself back to the cool mode before it happened.  In the current situation I believed there had never been a time when cooperation from international unions was needed at an urgent rate to fight and contain the virus.  This became the most acute pandemic and had never considered it that serious as we had thought. On planning on the interview I considered the virus to fall under the version of shared future. Many medical teams were spread all over to spread the worlds contribution to return to normal ways on containing the pandemic. This affected the availability of the gathered information since the interaction distance was set apart because of the rise of the virus. Most people considered any visitor a potential personnel of carrying the virus hence the availability of information was not effective. The interview had to proceed since I had to convince them that protective measures had to be placed in position to deal with the pandemic and continue with our activity. On establishing contact with the first individual I was a little bit nervous but later I had the courage from within to face him. I went to the community met a couple of individual and after great consultations I traced one member of the community who was believed to have a lot of facts on social work values. When I began my first interview I was a little scared since I thought differently of the hostility of the residence and the rising of corona virus pandemic did scare me. Many questions were running all over my mind but I had a plan on how I would organize myself in an organized way. I dressed in a good fitting outlook and in a well presentable way that could not interfere with the research work I was going to conduct. Questions kept nagging my mind but I was confident and beyond doubt determined that all the preparation I had put and all the effort was not going to be in vain. The issue on social distancing would affect me very negatively remembering that the state had declared it a world pandemic but I had sanitizers with me to wash my hands after every instant. A lot of information I had no clue on surfaced and popped up and this took my attention and was so competent to get every piece of information that came up.

      SECTION 1B: SOCIAL WORK VALUES

The most effective social value was planning. This helped to focus on challenges and the response from the human to the problems addressed and the solution to this problem. Key role on this are players those in authority in the community and holding the power. Citizens were also required but not compulsory that they make changes. Another social value was the social action. This helped the disadvantaged group since it helped it aided in correcting the social injustices. Confrontation of all groups competing for power was also made a shift in decision. I applied self-regulation to asses and illustrate attitudes outside the group that could be causing problems. Conflict between our opinions was well manage by the values as it improved our functioning and educated us o the psychosocial challenges and our experience. In my first session I collected views on how social work values affected the lives of people in the community and getting familiarized with the topic prior to the facts I had over the newspaper and magazines. The research I had done over the days on the social work values and how they were impacted upon by several issues in the society and both the positive and negative effects it had on the society. It was a great experience since it helped me build a good introduction on the topic and have a well laid down plan on the views I got. On my second interview I was just comparing the factual information and the experimental data I had from my sources and this helped me build a good source documentation of my findings. I maintained a higher level of professionalism since I understood the background facts of my clients and made sure that everything I said did not impact on them negatively. My social work values ensured that I got all the required attention I intended from my client and ensured that my clients views were reached at in a much professional direction.

SECTION 2.

              SECTION 2.1: PRELIMINARY PHASE

Before going for the interview I first analysed the topic and applied my creativity skill by going through the research on the community to interview. Also I searched on the website on the geographical and physical conditions of the community. I identified potential people to interview after much consultation with elders and community leaders. I had to acquire numerous face masks to avoid the contamination of corona virus. My first interview had to be with someone more competent and with a great knowledge on the topic. Concepts of practice models were guided on various interventions. This helped to develop actual experience on experimentation rather than evolving from a famous theory. During my analysis I acquired a laid down procedural method of conducting the research and gathered all the facts relating to the analysis. I practised so much on the skill of creativity so as to widen my thoughts and have proper means of dealing well with my clients. The constraints of corona virus impacted so much pressure in my research limiting the social distancing and clos interactions with my clients. The limited time of staying outside due to the pandemic also caused so much trouble in the field.

SECTION 2.2: CULTURAL COMPETENCE

There existed a greator influence by the cultural competence. This emerged due to the different system of ways to the community. Skin colour became an influence to the interviewers and our social classes also caused challenges. Their way of life and their age compared to mine also became so challenging to convince the old ones. I just took the understanding that I never noticed that and took it for granted. People are more than their culture and their physical ability, behaviour and opportunity I appreciated them and they did the same to me. Our locations in the social web aided us to know who we really were and this was influenced greatly by our sexual orientation and social background. They never took me as if I was more privileged than them but became a family and went on with the interview as planned. We worked on the view that cultural competence is never fully realised, or completed, but rather cultural competence is a lifelong process for social workers who will always encounter diverse clients and new situations in their practice. The difference impacted a lot of awareness to me and all I did was to appreciate that no one looked at our social differences. My client had a clear vision of who I was and that did not bring any disturbance as it was not the matter at any cost. On the cultural sensitivity issue I had managed my client appropriately since I had researched on the cultural values in their society and was ready to adopt to those social values and had respect on them One of them was their way of greeting old people. It dictated that one had to bend before having a word to the old people and I had much respect on their cultural beliefs. I did not address the differences to the interviewer since that could have bring a lot of discussion which was not our matter. From that experience I learned that despite our social classes, despite our background differences, despite our skin colour we should always embrace that we are all brothers and sisters destined together and should respect opinions and views of everyone.

SECTION 2.3: VERBAL AND NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION

Verbal communication was part of my research process and was well catered for vin my interview. There was a lot of inappropriate application of it but I tried my best to maintain the standards and ensure it was all well catered for. I tried to avoid any interruption at all cost and ensure I demonstrated a clear listening skill. I also asked questions where clarity was prior and kept my emotions on control whenever an issue popped up. I paid much attention on the body language and asked for comments and questions while ensuring that my speech was much clear. Some non-verbal communication cues were also maintained. Keeping the eye contact and varying the tone of my voice to ensure I caught the attention of the person I was interviewing. Keeping a clear and happy facial expression while positioning myself in a proper position while keeping distance considering the corona virus pandemic. The interviewer was in a perfect mood but his attention on some question was interrupted due to some issues like when issues like land grabbing came in. At some instance the interviewer jumped into conclusions and went angry and gave suggestions so quickly. Some questions I asked had no responses and gave reassurance without cause. I at times received phone calls from my boss which caused a lot of interference yet he always advised us to work harder like himself yet he is the one causing the interruption.  My ability to tune into and respond to the interviewer was properly managed since the face to face interview made us closer and understood their contrast between the verbal and non-verbal cues. My client displayed an excellent preview of his non-verbal cues. His ability to keep that straight view of his eye and active nature helped him a lot react well in every single problem we tried to address. Seeking clarification enabled us to have a better understanding of the clients experience.

               SECTION 2.4: THE FIRST INTERVIEW

First I prepared myself well for the interview by ensuring that I was relevant with the environment to be used in our analysis. I had enough skill to get in touch with the potential concerns that my first interviewer could come up to the encounter. I applied self-regulation to asses and illustrate attitudes outside the group that could be causing problems. Conflict between our opinions was well manage by the values as it improved our functioning and educated us o the psychosocial challenges and our experience. It was a great experience since it helped me build a good introduction on the topic and have a well laid down plan on the views I got. On my second interview I was just comparing the factual information and the experimental data I had from my sources and this helped me build a good source documentation of my findings.  I used my first experiences to recall similar emotions and the feelings of approximation. Employment of research and development theories to present the ideas and look into our own feelings. Building a rapport and developing a working relationship with my client was the first move. I demonstrated that I had heard and had feelings on how my client was feeling. Greeting them on a way that encouraged them and motivated them lead to my success. I also demonstrated non-verbal cues and attentive skills that showed them my interest in my client and also what I was listening.  I provided him a statement on the topic of research and explained to him in a way that attracted his attraction on the topic of research. Also explained to them my confidentiality level to attract his attention and broaden his views on the discussion topic. The private setting provided a clear environment and a silent atmosphere far from disturbance and this helped us settle fast and do our interview. The next time I tried to look for somewhere noisy and full of people’s opinions and realised a silent location was more convenient and better off. We ordered for a cup of tea to be at ease with my client and to make our brains more active and reduce the tension that I was causing on him. Another different thing I would have done is playing him some of their traditional songs and that would have brightened more of his attention. I introduced the questions in a clear way and in a way he could easily understand and in a relevant way. The information contained in my questions was not over loaded for him and I began it from a point he could draw a lot of reality from what we were researching on. On trying to explain himself on the point of discussion my client at some point went outside the central point of discussion and I had to just keep recording his statements since interrupting him would confuse him up. As the interview progressed the client revealed the sensitive information indirectly since from his points of discussion I could pick up some part of his points and it was relevant to the central point of discussion. A lot of examples were made and this provided a much sensitive information on the topic we were working on. As the interview came to an end I summarised the session by explaining to him all the information I had obtained and whenever we came across some information that was not captured well my client corrected on that. Next time I would use the same approach and ensure I corrected any information that was not clear with the presence of my client.

TOPIC 2.5: SUBSEQUENT INTERVIEW

Before going to my subsequent interview I made some preparatory activities and assessed on my previous interview. I learnt about the general organisation and the needs of the community. I also met some of the groups to determine what had to be done or changed on the sample data I had from my first interview. I differentiated between my analysis and those that I had heard from others. After sampling all the data I had there was need to do a subsequent interview to check for the rea information and more clarity of the information. My view was to keep on with the second interview so as to keep a perfect track with the research material I had on my hand.  My client participated on this seems it was a key role of having him so as to clarify on some facts he was familiar with. The data obtained from the first interview was not so much different from the first and the challenge posed was on doing a further research which areas I had to improve and make changes on. After completing my first interview I did consultations with my group members and compared the data we both had and see the relevance of the interview. There was no bigger difference on the analysis and that made me to opt on researching more on my topic. After gathering, organizing and analysing descriptive information I wrote down the assessment and synthesized the information. I created a precise summary of what had changed on my hypothesis. I was determined to have some treatment mandates and build safety concerns in the development ideas.

TOPIC 2.6: OVERALL ASSESSMENT OF PROFESSIONALISM

Assumptions and beliefs were made about how and when people and systems change and a social worker would do to facilitate the change needed.  Ethnic sensitive prospective ensured religious and cultural diversity among clients and this brought a lot of problems on the professionalism. All social workers were to have awareness on how power had impact on lives of clients. Practice theory explained well and gave guidelines about how some situations and behaviours can be changed. T improve the social duties of individuals by aiding clients in understanding their conflicting thoughts. In contrast to a practice theory, a model is not tied to some specific behaviour that can be explained and a crisis intervention is then termed as a practice theory. There were numerous strengths in the social work professionalism since I had understood well the cultural background of the clients. Having understood every detail of social work I had enough information regarding the research and this ensured that the interview was well managed. Some of the weaknesses came in when a point reached where a misunderstanding came out from the research. Time factor was also a limiting factor as it required a lot of time and much concentration time to finish up the entire interview as it had been planned and managed. The individual made a nice comment on my interview and would have wished this went on even for a longer time. Building a good relationship and sharing ideas regarding the social work brought much interest and erupted the idea of social class in their minds. I was also given a second chance to have a visit to the community not only for interviewing purposes but also for friendship deals and building a good relationship together.

SECTION 3

           SECTION 3A: OVERALL ASSESMENT

After a lengthy discussion on the social work values with my client a lot of conclusions were drawn from the assessment. My client was much motivated by the intrinsic change in behaviour. Despite being goal oriented he depicted a behaviour that helped me explore and resolve the ambivalence.  He had motivation to change and was not imposed by forces that came from the outside. He assisted in identifying and expanding upon actions that he views as relevant and effective solutions to his way of presenting the comments. Strengths based on cultural sensitivity became so much helpful in resolution of problems. The client was able to identify and maximize the occurrence of the problems. Genuine curiosity and some admiration on the topic helped to highlight strengths without contradicting the clients perspection. The client’s values and behaviour did not align with the entire expectations and showed an importance of using a value-based approach. Starting from his point of view social work helped a lot improve lifestyles and building of a strong bond of communities and their members with different social classes and religions. He used the prior knowledge and experience he had built from the community at his past and had much determination on his points. Respect of community members was a priority to developing a healthy and strong relationship and good conduct was displayed all over the interview time. He kept focusing on the positive and solution to facilitate the future change. They had enough strengths and resources that they needed to change on the values by looking at the many ways that they needed to look at solutions. Displaying much persistence on the conditions and time was a value I admired most from the client. A plan was established to meet tasks and complete tasks and change even long terms patterns as a result of the discussion. Assessment report was laid down after emerging the themes and a brief summary of what had happened. We identified a source information and differentiated between my analysis and those of others.

                     SECTION 3B: RESEARCH GUIDE

Basing my review on the latest pandemic of corona virus infection I was able to attach my guide. Research help the study in obtaining the real facts of the problem. It helps in differentiating the information desired to be factual and contradicting as it keeps records on the real facts of problems. Many questions are hence directed to the research including the financial status of the client. Also experience on some challenges has been causing him trouble. Staking a higher amount of money on gambling firms and getting a negative result has affected the client. His ability to life a happy life full of satisfaction of his daily needs also impact a lot of challenges in his survival with the hard cost of living. The medical status of the client was not bad and was feeling good with a proper health and cormfortable. Incase of any problem related to health the client was ready to be treated in any health facility available in their location. The review on the World Health Organisation on corona virus related partly to the research since the problem being addressed was not much different. Questions were asked regarding the lifestyle of the client. Does he smoke? If so when was the first time? Has anyone been concerned or complained about it? Has he tried to stop? The client had so many life problems and I guessed smoking was part of the trouble he was having and the issue could have been addressed by a qualified medical staff and being educated on the dangers posed by the effect. I advised the client on the dangers of doing that and proposed a way of dealing with it. Studying the problem was a very important obligation in the interview and specifically the social work practice in general. Materials from the internet and class documents helped in guiding us o the study and ensuring none of the questions remained not answered. The client answered all the questions and I made it clear to him that all the questions were of benefit to both of us. The only questions that only remained unanswered were on his private life including his family status and his financial status since he was not ready to disclose that. He located himself in a family through the heightened view of being one of the few. He narrated the emerging understanding of what I took for granted and never noticed.

SECTION 3C: ACTUAL RESOURCE

Based on the gambling crisis affecting the client and most of is community I would recommend the government to grab the licence of any betting company operating in the country. I would recommend the Bet way International company to stop its operation since its causing the locals to loose most of their incomes and wasting a lot of their time on dealing with the betting challenge. Betting firms operating in the community should instead educate members on the proper way of doing the gaming in a way that will make its members have great awareness on the gaming process. Also I realised that my client was suffering from what seemed to be a smoking disorder. Most of the locals from the community were suffering due to presence of the British Tobacco Company around the place. This makes it easy for the locals to access ciggarates and I would recommend if possible the industry to be shifted to somewhere far from the locals. The outpatient substance is being used by also the young generation and the self-help group should take their action. The client should also be covered with life insurance policy. This will ensure that they are covered from any risk that could come their ways and they will put some of their savings as the endowment plan. They should cover the policy of any disease that could come their way and provide a full policy till death. Studying the problem was a very important obligation in the interview and specifically the social work practice in general. Materials from the internet and class documents helped in guiding us o the study and ensuring none of the questions remained not answered. Programs and services of saving plans should be run and members educated on any pandemic occurring. My social work values ensured that I got all the required attention I intended from my client and ensured that my clients views were reached at in a much professional direction. They should be prepared in any way in order to curb some infections like corona virus that pop without any signal.
