Introduction
Organizational behavior encompasses all aspects of existing factors that impact or shape human assumption, action, and perceptions at an organizational level. Arguably, any institution has a distinct set of considerations that determine how employees interact and perform their duties. Therefore, organizational behavior cuts across aspects of relevant corporate culture, productivity, team synergies, right mental bearing, job motivations and satisfaction, and real understanding among employees (Islam, A & Abdullah, A.R.B, 2019). Similarly, organizational behavior embarks on multi-discipline approaches that cross-cut from management to employees.
The Crucial Elements of Organizational Behaviour
An organization comprises of several key elements that shape and dictate organizational behavior. These elements include;
(A). Employees (people)
Without employees, there are no ideas of an organization. People interact at the workplace level to bring about factors of teamwork, motivation, understanding, and organization culture that shape both the internal and external image of the institution. Similarly, employees are the carriers of the organization’s mission and goal, therefore, forming a fundamental element of organizational behavior.
(B). Leadership styles and structures
Organization’s leadership and management is a crucial aspect in shaping and determining the overall bearing of any institution. Leadership styles determine how the authority and decisions circulate at the institution level. Correspondingly, leadership identifies essential factors of job motivation and satisfaction, employee empowerment, and the sense of ownership of initiatives.
(C). Technology
Technological knowledge and advancement is an essential factor at an organization level. Technology aids in determining means of communication, storage of data, and providing efficiency to employees. Significantly, technology contributes in shaping organizational behavior but fastening operations and providing energy when executing different operations.
(D). The Environment
Any organization is subject to changes in both internal and external factors that may demand changes in behavior. For instance, an organization may be subject to the need to hire the right employees for efficient realization of goals and objectives (Islam, A & Abdullah, A.R.B, 2019). Similarly, an organization may require changes to address the effects of changing external environments such as competition, need for diversity, globalization, and other important considerations.
Issues related to Organizational behavior and their importance in satisfying changing Environment
Organizational behavior is essential in determining how people, leadership structures, technology, and the environment interact and form a complex interdependence. Additionally, organizational behavior may be crucial in the development of;
(A). The organizational Culture
Organizational behavior contributes to the development of underlying traits among employees and top management. Corporate culture emanates from the accumulation of different practices that accumulate over a long time to shape the identity of an organization (King, D & Lawley, S.2016). Organizational culture is vital in addressing changing environments in aspects of; improving competitiveness among employees, respect for diversity, understanding among workers, and leadership development.
(B). The business Ethics
Business ethics comprise all acceptable and pleasant codes of conduct available at the organization, business, and workplace levels. Business ethics form a basis for promoting positive institutional identity, both internally and externally. The acceptable conducts include integrity, respect for diversity, care, statutory compliance, keeping promises, among other considerations (King, D & Lawley, S.2016). Business ethics address global changes in aspects of; respect for diversity, improving competitiveness, and enhancing the productivity of the business.
The Applicable elements of Organizational Behaviour
Arguably, not all traits present in an organization are applicable or relevant. For the improvement of the organization, only acceptable behavior can be applied to address needs for positive identity, job satisfaction, motivation, and improved output. The applicable traits include;
Integrity and responsiveness. Needs for upholding integrity and responsiveness is unmatched. Integrity and responsiveness can be applied through proper understanding of organizational roles, financial reporting, embracing openness, and honesty while executing duties, among other ways (Pettinger, R. 2013). Integrity and responsiveness are vital in increasing efficiency, creating a positive identity, boosting professionalism, and increasing the overall performance of the organization.
Embracing diversity. Different employees at the workplace level originate from different societies and possess diverse characteristics. Respect for diversity is exercised through, respecting gender roles and differences, encouraging other employees’ inputs, boosting morale and motivation, forming, and synergies, among different ways. Respect for diversity is vital in eliminating odd biases and perceptions, as well as improving relationships available in the organization.
The improvement of Organization Marketplace position from an Organizational Behaviour Perspective
Arguably, any institution, business, and organization aimed at maintaining or improving their market positions. For organizational behavior, the fundamental consideration is to promote and exercise positive traits that would improve the internal and external environment (Savanakumar, At. 2020). In the bid to enhance market position, any institution is subject to challenges such as the need for globalization, an increase in efficiency and productivity, leadership and job empowerment, promoting business ethical considerations, respecting and embracing diversities.
The endeavor for improving marketplace position demand for cooperation and commitment between organizational leaders and employees. Leadership commitment entails factors of properly outlining the mission and goals, proper selection of employees, leading by examples, and eliminating leadership styles that motivational aspects and empowerment (Turkalj, Z & Fosic, I. 2009). Similarly, at the employees’ levels, there are needs to eliminate perceptions, ideas, and assumptions that compromise respect for diversity, alongside exercising improved business ethics that are important in aiding the realization of organizational mission and vision.
Conclusion
The importance of organizational behavior is evident. People, leadership, technology, and the environment interact to bring about motivations, cognitive development, skills, perceptions, and that are essential for any organization. After an extended period, organizational behavior brings about the corporate culture and improved business ethics. Both organizational culture and ethics are critical in addressing the changing institutional environment. Similarly, organizational behavior is an integral part of promoting and enhancing the corporate marketplace position.
