Atheism vs. Theism
Introduction
Atheism questions proof about the reality of God’s existence; hence, it disregards everything religious. Simply, atheists do not hold onto God as their guide and protector like Christians. Whereas this may appear as a standard viewpoint of people with the right to freedom, believe it or not, multiple nations across the world criminalize atheism. On the contrary, theism refers to the belief of divine reality existence, usually pertaining to monotheism (one God). It occurs in various forms, including monotheism (belief in one God) and polytheism (belief in multiple gods). They belong to certain religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and Hinduism.
Atheism: Benefits and Detriments
Society may have various contradictory ideologies about atheists, but these people have not-conflicting ideas. First, atheists do not have to argue almost every time a person offend any religion because they are not associated with any religion. It is hard for them engaged in heated debates regarding which religion is superior to others. Atheists are free of disputed views. They never fight with others to make their own ideas more acceptable to better than others. No horrible information involving the consequences of not praying, and this is one advantage that atheists seem to enjoy. Secondly, atheists are fulfilled with their hypothesis. They hold onto scientific rationales and never dwell upon myths that are almost always unbelievable unless one is a blind believer. Their explanations and ideas are simple and are pleased with their beliefs. Fulfillment at heart remains to be the most key thing that human beings desire, and atheism gives that literally and non-mythically. Thirdly, atheists are never coerced to adhere to traditions. If one does not believe in their concepts, he/she is free to follow whatever path they wish. One is not forced to give reasons why they cannot engage in particular outdated traditions or customary practices that they deem not appropriate. Furthermore, atheists live free lives and do not judge one another. They do not infringe on each other privacy, and that is one benefit that atheists enjoy. Finally, atheism involves logical explanations, and they are open to adapting to new facts/information that is backed by comprehensive research. Contrarily, theists disregard new facts/information concerning religion, hence rejecting logic entirely.
Atheism is associated with various detriments, including the lack of fear of God, hopelessness for the afterlife, being condemned, and not looking form meanings. Atheists disregard morality and have no fear of answering to anyone for unintended harm they cause others. They hold no liability and do not repent but move on and restart afresh despite hurting another person’s emotional being. Additionally, atheists are mostly extremely contented with logical explanations and tend to ignore meaningful nature signs. They are never open to considering looking beyond facts, and they are, therefore, inconsiderate of deeper life meanings. Being a non-believer comes with hopelessness regarding the afterlife. They remain hopeless after losing a loved one because they believe that that is the end of their togetherness. Finally, various religious groups, especially extremists, detest, and criticize atheism as a threat to society. They are seen as people who lack morality completely and evildoers who lack any sense of guilt.
Theism: Benefits and Detriments
Since theism is simply the opposite of atheism, most of the detriments associated with atheism are benefits when it comes to theism and vice versa. Theists are guaranteed a happy life after death. They believe that after death, one goes to live in a better place and that they have a connection with that person forever. Theism consists of a community having like-minded people who support each other during times of difficulties. Theism gives answers or solutions to various questions in life that atheism is not in a position to provide. Theism also provides humankind with a ground for morality, and most of the religions focus on being good people and assisting other people. Theists are open to new ideas and knowledge, and it only requires faith, unlike atheists who are stuck to scientific research.
Nevertheless, theists have to challenge many issues related to a certain faith since all contain various aspects than seem hard to believe. Also, every theist is classified with everyone else who belongs to a certain religion. Most religions also brainwash their supporters to conform to their beliefs. Challenging these beliefs is unacceptable, and abandoning one’s faith can also cost their lives in some instances. Finally, theist religions are involved in most vices that happen in the world and judge others very harshly.
Looking at the weights of each point, the benefits associated with theism outweigh those associated with atheism. Therefore, theism remains to be the most accepted religion in the world. On the other hand, the detriments of atheism outweigh those associated with theism. This explains why it remains to be discriminated and demeaned in the society. Generally, most people lean on the theism side because of the many advantages associated with having faith that guides their actions, rather than believing in facts generated by other human beings.
Conclusion
Believing either in atheism or theism or being believers or humanitarians, solely depends on a person’s choice in this world. Every individual has the right to choose to belong to either of them so long their actions do not hurt others. For this reason, society should never be judgmental when it comes to other people’s choices. Both atheists and theists should treat one another with respect. However, theists seem to enjoy more benefits than atheists; therefore, I believe that people should make informed choices when it comes to these two segments.
