She is a thirty-three old Cameroonian woman who came into the United States of America. She is the wife of jende, all from Cameroon. She has a son named Liomi. As an immigrant in the United States, she works as a home health aide through an agency since she has not yet secured a green card. At the start of the novel, she gets to the United States, where she gets a job working for Cindy and mighty Edwards. She is also studying with the hopes of getting a student visa to study pharmacy. When Jendi lost his job and had to go back to Cameroon, she chose to follow her husband. She was not able to achieve much in states since there was an economic crisis that was going on. She did not have other options.

When Cindy dies of choking on vomit while drunk, it is a sad state. When one dies, it is always sad as life is sacred. However, when Cindy was alive, she was mean to jende. She even orchestrated the firing of jende by telling Clark to fire him, or she would do something. It means for her to do that to Jende, who was trying to get the best out of the situation he was in. Jende’s dream was to come into the United States to have a better life. He was from Cameroon, a country which he described as living in extreme poverty. He explains that in the country there was a better chance to have a good life. He explains that if in Cameroon, he would be poor just like his father and also the same would happen to his son. The possibility of making it in America is alive in his mind just like Obama did and became the president. However, there exist a lot of challenges for an immigrant that inhibit this dream from ever happening. Most people migrate to the United States for such a dream.
Question 8
Jende’s family was better off in the United States of America than being in Cameroon. This is because Jende gets to earn an income that is enough to cater for his family. Nina also has a chance of going to pharmacy school in the United States, which is a step towards being successful. The son also has a chance of gaining a good education in the states as compared to the situation in Cameroon, which is described as the future of nothingness.
Question 12
Jende’s reaction towards Nina upon expressing that she was not willing to go back to Cameroon was unexpected. Jende gets infuriated and slaps Nina, which is wrong. Jende has a character of being friendly and meek, but having the wife him at his lowest point was a big blow. The reaction was warranted.
Question 15
He would have a rough time finding a good job that pays better money. However, with more experience, he would be able to have good money from situations that would pay better than the roles he would have done while in Cameroon. The chances of success are high in America.
Question 13
The immigrant is viewed as an intruder who comes to benefit from an already developed country. This is why the bureaucracy is designed to wall off the outsiders from the American dream. It is a hard struggle for immigrants even to get the papers to live and work in the country.
