  1. Select 2 characters from the play and discuss their performances in the areas of:
    1. Their Speaking Voice: Diction, tone, clear!

Sgt. Merwin J. Toomey has an authoritative voice, he also appears funny, and some of his words may look to be less serious, given his tone when giving the command. His voice is very clear throughout the play

Eugene Morris Jerome appears to be timid in his action. He uses uncertain voice which makes him appear confused in some of the times. He has a regretful tone at the beginning of the play. Eugene wishes that he would not have joined the army. As the play proceeds, he develops the tone of acceptance and bravery.

  1. Projection & Volume

The projection of the two characters is fine. They are depicted according to their different roles in the movie. Their voices also have the right volume throughout the play.

  1. Discuss the Set & Costume Design!
    1. Does the set allow the actors to move freely on the Stage?

The set of the play does not allow the players to move so freely on the Stage. There are beds throughout most part of the film, and only a smaller portion of the Stage is left for plays outside their dormitories. Their movement is limited to the small space that is between the bed and on the left side of the Stage. The Stage can only allow slow dance moves like the one performed by Eugene and Daisy. The Stage was set to much the play since the play does need a lot of movements.

  1. Do the Costumes assist the audience in understanding the Characters on Stage?

Yes, the costumes that have been used in the play has a role in informing the audience about the characters. Eugene, Arnold, Selfridge and other boys in training are putting on attires for trainees that resemble those of army trainees. Jerome costume is a little different from the costume of the rest. It indicates his position in the training base. Daisy’s clothing makes her appear decent and from a stable background. Rowena is depicted to have sexy clothing which depicts her as a fun-loving lady. She is just about to have sexual intercourse with Eugene, and the costumes create the mood for what is expected to follow.

  1. Can the actors move freely on Stage? Are the costumes limiting the movement of actors while the dance or sing?

Actors can move freely in the Stage and perform without any difficulty. The costumes are not limiting their movement in any way. It is evident in the Part where Toomey instructs Trainees to do pushups that the clothes do not limit them from moving.

  1. Did you notice any problem with the actors during the Show that related to the Set or Costumes?

There was no problem related to costume in the play. Every actor fitted well with the attire designed for them.

  1. How would you evaluate the technical aspects of the show during the performance?
    1. Did all of the light and sound cues work appropriately?

Light and sound cues worked perfectly throughout the movie. Change of events and scenes were perfectly marched with appropriate light and sound cues. A good example is during the play of Eugene and Rowena, the change of lighting demonstrated the change of mood; a dim light background fitted the situation well. Sound effects were also utilized well in the play.

  1. How did the musicians and the sound crew work together? We’re singers having a problem with their mics so that you couldn’t hear them speak or sing? Was the band too loud or too soft? Explain what you observed!

The musician and band crew worked perfectly well. There was no problem related to mics. Every actor was audible enough, whether speaking or singing. The band was soft and soothing to the listener. It was not too loud or too soft. It was just set right throughout the play. I would say that everything was in sync in the play.
