Biological Psychological Perspective

Definition

Biological psychological perspective involves studying things such as the brain of the animal or the person, the nervous system, the immune system and genetics. This perspective major on the how nature or the environment has been able to influence the behavior of a human being (Ramezani, Ahmadi & Mohammadi, 201). For instance, a person behaving abnormally aggressively the biological viewpoint could consider things such as brain injuries that might have caused the person to act aggressively. Also, another option to consider might be either the person has some genetic factors that contribute to him behaving in such away. With the increased research, this branch is now closely linked with other areas of science, such as genetics and biology.  Biological perspective is critical in studying psychology through the comparative method, physiology and a more in-depth investigation of inheritance. Under the comparative method, different animal species are examined and studied and this can significantly help in the research to understand human behavior. Physiology deals with the study of how the hormonal and the nervous system works, how the brain functions and how the change in the structure of the brain, to some extent, can affect the behavior of an individual or an animal. Inheritance is the investigation of what an animal inherits from its parents.

Daily Examples

There are several everyday examples of things that biological psychologists are interested in their endeavors to look at how different biological forces determine human behavior (Payne, 56). One of the examples of the things that they focus on include analyzing the effects of brain trauma on the human or animal behavior, how different degenerative diseases affect how people or animals in general behave, how things like aggression are affected by influenced by genetic factors and also getting to understand how brain damage and genetics is associated with several mental disorders

Essay on Health-Related Issue: Mental Health

In a place like Hong Kong, there is a more significant correlation between mental health and poverty and also economic inequality in the area. Poverty can be defined as low socio-economic status and mostly, it is characterized by low income and high unemployment levels. When people are unemployed, it becomes challenging for them to earn money for them to supply basic needs to their families.

To begin with, people who experience poverty mostly in their childhood lives for an extended period always have higher chances, or their probability of experiencing adverse mental health and development are very high (Dworkin, 45). This is because every other time they would face depression and anxiety disorders as they try to figure out the way forward to make their ends meet. Also, growing up in a poor background exposes the people, especially the children to high-stress levels, which at the end of the day would lead to psychological problems. A child who grows in a poor environment most of the time they grow up in fear, and this can significantly affect their mental state and cause them to have short-term spatial memory (Canavan et al. 76). Another negative mental state that these children may acquire is that the kids may be more likely to receive aggressive and antisocial behaviors which all these can to some point be termed as mental disorders. Also, the fact that children from a poor background sometimes they feel powerless than children from middle-class families can bring them to depression, which is also a mental health problem.

Limitation of the Study

The limitation of this study is that the research is not 100% applicable to developed countries where the levels of poverty are deficient. Yet, people over there are still experiencing mental health challenges. In the U.S, for instance, 65%  of the people with mental challenges or mental health problems tracing their history before they started experiencing such difficulties they were living beyond the poverty line (Cardeña, Etzel & Michael, 456). The study limits mental health challenges to only poverty and yet there are many other valid causes of mental health issues.

Experimental Design Study

To be able to come up with a study that will give more reliable results concerning mental health issue, the following experimental design can significantly help.

Hypothesis

Poverty is the leading cause of mental health problems

Economic imbalance leads to mental health problems

Mental health problems are more in developing countries than in developed countries

Procedure for the Study

  1. The study will involve choosing the eight psychiatric hospitals in the world and compare the leading causes of mental health problems
  2. At least three of the hospitals selected should be top mental hospitals from developing countries
  3. The selection of the patients should be random
  4. The research will be done in these hospitals to find what the leading causes of mental health problems are
  5. The comparison will then be made and a conclusion be made on the same
